Located on SR 16 just east of Green Cove Springs on the old Lee Field property (now Reynolds) is this gem of a museum. Housed in a climate controlled Quonset Hut, the museum covers military history from the Revolution through the wars in the desert & Afghanistan, with emphasis on the contributions made from the North Florida area. There are vehicles (located in the surrounding area) that includes a Jeep, ambulance, a mule, 2 6 X 6 2 1/2 ton trucks and other rolling stock. By far the biggest display piece is the LARC-LX, which stands for Lighter, Amphibious Resupply, Cargo, 60 ton. Open Wed-Sun this is well worth your time if you have any interest in military history. Next time you are going from Jacksonville to St. Augustine make a stop - you won't regret it.

Very good place to visit with the whole family. Good for kids and parent or just someone wanting to get out and see something cool.

This is a great place to see back in time, something to view as a resident or visitor. The volenteers give great info that enhances your visit a definite must!

I've been to hundreds of museums all over the America's. NEVER have I seen so much history packed into such a tiny place. One could literally spend a day reading, touching and looking at exhibits. Located in a WWII era Quonset hut (one of several buildings left on the old Lee Field Naval Air Station/Green Cove Springs Naval Station. The men and women that have volunteered their time and the collection of period equipment and artifacts isn't matched by many 'more important' or 'major museums.' I would give this little place my highest recommendation. As a side note, those vacationing in Florida and/or headed to Disney World can easily access this museum to/ from I-95. The museum is 14 miles west. TURN WEST at World Golf Village, onto International Golf Parkway, continue west 2.5 miles to State Highway 16, TURN RIGHT. After 1.8 miles, 16 TURNS LEFT. Follow 16, 1.8 miles to the stoplight, TURN RIGHT at the light and travel 4 miles, 16 TURNS LEFT. Go 6.5 miles and the museum will be on your LEFT. Well worth the effort.

This mostly volunteer-run museum is a real treasure. Artifacts and exhibits spanning several years of history in a county with lots of military history. Great find. Read more about my trip to Clay County at http://www.fooveler.com/2013/07/06/clay-county/

This is a tiny little place but full of history. Green Cove Springs was a military city before and during WWII. After the war it housed a "mothball fleet" of 600 naval vessels. Museum is well worth a visit.

Visited the Military Museum of N FL run by a couple of VERY dedicated retired Marines. What a gem this is. Rather small and appears to be soon out growing its building. Full of very interesting antiquities from all of the conflicts our great country has encountered. The museum is free (but feel free to leave a generous donation) since these folks do all of the collecting, catalogueiung and exhibiting on their own time. Green Cove Springs has a real gem in their town, glad I took the detour to take a look.

This has been in existence only for a few years but is evolving into a quite engrossing and interesting museum, run by a a board of directors composed of patriotic businessmen from the area and has no paid employees. There are exhibits and artifacts from before and including World Wars I and II, and after, all well set out in various places, both indoors and out.It is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To be honest I was not expecting a great deal out of this museum as it is in the small town of Green Cove Springs and is not highly advertised. To my surprise this is a great museum which traces U.S. military history over the past 250 years with most emphasis on World Wars I and II. Lots of interesting write-ups, photos, war memorabilia, uniforms, weapons and vehicles (to include even a landing craft). Highly recommend it for a nice 2 hour visit, especially since it is for free (donations accepted).
