I am biased as my wife is a docent at the Flagler. The tour guides are most excellent and most have been with Flagler a long time. The home is in tip top condition. Make sure you visit the rail car in the rear outside. If you have time walk along the Lake trail to Worth Avenue.
We enjoyed a guided tour of the Flagler Mansion by a knowledgable and polished guide. The tour was at an easy pace for a hour. Afterward we went out to the pavilion to see Mr Flagler's personal train car. The view across Lake Worth is magnificent. The history almost comes alive as you walk through the rooms of the Mansion.
This was a very interesting look into the history of Palm Beach and the role Mr. Flagler played in it. The home was beautiful. It's always interesting to see how the super wealthy lived and to see the similarities in the homes of Flagler, Dearing, Vanderbilt, Hurst, etc.
Not cheap, but well worth a visit. One of the most stunning Gilded Age mansions you'll see. Allow some extra time for relaxing on the side porch after the tour and pretending that it's your house.Oddly enough, the tour includes one room that is a museum of antique lace collected by a prior occupant. I'm no expert, but if you're into vintage textiles, make sure you don't skip this exhibit.
An incredible audio guided tour educates you as you walk through this astounding acheivement of Henry Flagler, a gift to his much younger bride, your jaw will drop as you hear of all the modern conveinuces that were so ahead of their time. And as you learn that he is responsible for south fla being what it is today. Make sure you do not miss this treat!
Amazing grounds. Would have liked to see the mansion but the website DID NOT have updated hours. No way to know they are closed on Monday!!
A quality guided tour as well as the remainder on your own. Not many realize that Flagler made his money from Standard Oil.
Whether you're a history, art, or architecture enthusiast, you will find something to love at this place! It's an attraction not to be missed if you're in south Florida for any reason. The house was built in 1902 during the so-called "gilded age" and contains an assortment of fine art, pool tabes, pianos and a large organ that were designed especially for the Flaglers who lived here for 9 weeks of the year. The place is so beautiful that brides routinely select its chapel and ballroom for weddings. There were 2 scheduled on the day we visited. It's worth the price of admission which is admittedly a bit steep for a museum, but at least the self-guided audiophone is included and recommended to appreciate the visit better.
There is nothing not to like. There is a varied art collection and current special ones are advertised in local papers. It is set in a lovely place.
An amazing visit of a great house. I would go again anytime , there is also a little café that offer The 4 o'clock tea with a little snack, very nice experience also you can drive around the museum and it is just spectacular.
This is a beautiful mansion and worth the trip. If you enjoy touring castles and mansions this one is not to be missed. It gives you nice history of Palm Beach. They offer guided tours as well as audio self guided tours. The docent tours are timed so go on the website for the times.
What a splendid way to spend a few hours! A tour of this beautiful mansion was highly recommended by friends who had visited the home and we enjoyed our visit immensely. We started with the (complimentary) guided group tour of the main floor of the mansion which runs at specific times throughout the day (check out their website). We are glad we did as we valued the input of our knowledgeable guide. Once our group tour was done, we each grabbed a wand and did a self guided tour of the upstairs and all it's magnificent bedrooms. There's also a little one room museum upstairs which was interesting. When we'd finished touring the upstairs, we did the main floor again as a self guided tour. This allowed us to spend more time looking at things of a particular interest that we may have had to rush past during the guided group tour. All in all a fantastic way to tour the house and all it's finery. The story behind the home is a fascinating one and you may wish to research it a bit before touring it. There is so much history here. The grounds are lovely. It is also worth touring the private rail car of Henry Flagler. There is no cost for parking. The entrance fee that you pay at the gate before entering the property allows you to spend as much time as you'd like touring the mansion and the grounds. There is also an afternoon tea offered at an additional cost (which we missed as it had ended by the time we'd finished our touring). Our friend and her husband said it was a great way to spend a rainy day while visiting South Florida.I can't speak highly enough about this beautiful mansion and look forward to going back again some day. Took a self guided tour. Pretty amazing place. Loved itGive yourself a lot of time to see all the museum has to offer.
We thoroughly enjoyed touring the museum which was built by Flagler and used solely in the winter time. It has been restored to all its glory and is furnished with many original pieces. There are wonderful historical displays and at the end of our tour we ended up in the glass conservatory building which houses one of Flagler's railroad cars and offers tea at a café overlooking the water. Outside the mansion are paths that can be enjoyed by bicyclists, runners and walkers. Very nice.
Although I am a seasonal resident of Ft. Myers, I was unaware of the Flagler Museum until someone suggested we go on a bus trip to Palm Beach to see it. What a rich piece of history. Henry Flagler made his money with Standard Oil, followed by getting into hotels, and finally the railroad (he was responsible for bringing the railroad all the way to Key West). Our tour guide did an excellent job of talking about various qualities of the man as well as sharing aspects of the mansion that meant a lot more after hearing her explanation. Definitely worth seeing and hearing about the man, his third wife (for whom he built the mansion) and the mansion itself.
