Beautiful forested area, under a dome that houses hundreds of butterflies. They are all multi-colored and extremely beautiful...some may even land on you. It is sort of a smaller area and won't take up too much of your time, but the museum that it is attached to is also a great place to learn about Florida's natural features and Native American history in this ares. I highly recommend it for families and people wanting to learn more about Florida.
This is a magical experience with the butterflies flying around you and landing on you. The surrounding foliage is gorgeous and always kept up attractively to enhance the area and changed seasonally. I am planning on taking a group of school children in the future.
Great fun for kids and adults alike! Beautiful butterfly's and birds. In a controlled atrium! Take you camera !
been to a few others like this, in Callaway Gardens and the Butterfly House in Westminster, Colorado, and this is as good as it gets. Plus, they have a wonderful gift shop.
Who does not like butterflies? Year round hatchery allows visitors to see every stage of the butterfly.
What a beautiful and serene place. All of these beautiful butterflies without a care in the world. Made me want to put "butterfly attracting" plants on my balcony!
Tropical plants and butterflies galore. Many, many species. Lovely nooks throughout for a sit down. Knowledgeable docents. And you get 3 fers. It is located inside the science museum, next to the art museum.
I have visited this wonderful environment on numerous occasions and I am never at a lose for finding beauty in this setting. Bring Grandma , bring the kids or come solo you won't regret it!
A beautiful and entrancing experience. Something new and unexpected around every turn. The "Rain Forest" is wheel chair accessible a makes this venue especially appealing for those with disabilities who want an out door experience without the physical challenges of other nature trips. The Butterfly Education Center has a wealth of information and exhibits suited to both young and old.
What a wonderful place to spend the afternoon! Does get crowded around the times they release the butterflies but it seemed to thin out shortly after the release. Many many great photo opportunities for all us wanna-be photographers. There are several benches throughout to sit and take a short break. Staff throughout was friendly and knowledgeable. Watch your step, especially with children, as the butterflies land anywhere and everywhere.
same comments like previous replyedparking spaces almost full, highly recommend park for $ 4 per day at nearby, may park at a meter area but only good for 45 min for 75 cents
It's always a pleasure to visit the museum and the butterfly rainforest.A must go when in Gainesville... I'm a local and it never gets old!
This is a must when visiting North Central FL. There are many unusual BF varieties & the plants & fish are a treat to experience.
My wife and I took our grandchildren, ages 3 and 5, to the rainforest and were impressed with the entire setting and with seeing a large variety of butterflies. But because it was raining, we saw few butterflies. Apparently, they like the sun. That's not the fault of the rainforest people but it's something to keep in mind when you visit. Our grandchildren were mildly interested but liked the natural history museum more.
We took my 2 1/2 yr old, and although it was beautiful, he kept getting in trouble for touching things. One staff member even told him that a plant he was touching would make him sick.
