I grew up in Burlington; the waterfront was not an attraction then. Now, with the bikepath, I really love to get down and get a workout. Beautiful and well maintained.

Background: Having lived in the Burlington area for 26 years, it's easy to take for granted what World Class attractions we have right at our doorstep. The Burlington Bike Path (we call it the Burlington Recreation Path) has world class lake and mountain views right on the lake.Tip: If you want hustle and bustle: there are plenty of places to eat or snack right in Downtown Burlington. Plus there are spectacular views. But if you are able to bike on a gentle grade, don'tmiss biking the causeway in Mallets Bay, Colchester, where the bike path is not just on the lake shore, but has water, water everywhere, where you are literally biking with the lake on one sideand the bay on the other. Plus there are the Adirondack Mountains to the West and the Green Mountains to the East! This is World Class, easy to get to, and easy to enjoy!Maps are attached below: http://www.btvbikepath.com/rehabilitation.asphttp://colchestervt.gov/Recreation/Causeway.html

Not much to dislike here, you can rest or walk while enjoying the view. It's very relaxing and calm even though there's a lot of people in the area.

Always with breathtaking views. Well maintained. Takes you along the lake shore line and into the city and museums. Best maple creamees just outside Echo museum for adults and kids

Come to Burlington, bring your bike or rent one. Our bike path has a summer season ferry which will take you to Grand Island, you can ride around, or take the lake ferries to get to routes to NY and Quebec.http://www.localmotion.org/programs/islandline/bike-ferry

Not a long bike trail, but a wonderful bike path. An easy ride, with a few slight hills. The views of Lake Champlain are outstanding. The path seems to be a favorite of the locals and the people you meet along the way were friendly.

The bike path runs along the Burlington waterfront where the views are spectacular. The path goes all the way up to Mallets bay where there is a bike ferry sometimes operates to take you across.

What a great way to spend the day. An easy ride, beautiful scenery, not too crowded, and it takes you all the way out so you're basically riding on Lake Champlain. Wow. Wish I could have spent the entire day doing this. Highly recommend!

This former railway route has been converted into an excellent scenic bike path near the shores of Lake Champlain. One can ride from Shelburne up through Burlington, across the mouth of the Winooski River, and out on the old railroad causeway across the lake itself, almost to Grand Isle. It is almost enitrely level, no real hills and only a slight slope here and there. But be prepared to use your lower gears if you have to go against the strong winds that sometimes blow across the lake.

The Burlington Bike Path is one of the top recreational spots for active outdoorers in the Burlington area. The path stretches 12 miles from Leddy Park in the south to the end of the Colchester Causeway in the north. During the Summer months, there is a bike ferry ($8 round-trip for general public, $6 round-trip for local motion members) that ferries riders to South Hero on an as-needed basis where one can ride the entire length of the Grand Isle and return via the same ferry. Overall, the surface shifts from paved asphalt to packed gravel or dirt and in between. The bike path is more suited to either Cyclo-Cross bikes or commuter-tire road bikes (at least 25 or 27 mm tires rather than 23s) due to this surface. It provides an ideal pedaling in the heart of Burlington. If you do not own a bike, there are affordable rental options either on the path itself at the Waterfront (Local Motion) or nearby (Skirack Bike Shop).

Being from NYC, I like paths that are completly separated from car roads, and this is one of the best I've in the US. We hiked for 2 hrs, and its is easy stroll. The real highlight is looking out across a clean lake to the Adirondack mountains from the city beach.

Burlington sees many visitors and its 17 mile bike path is the way to enjoy local ambiance along the eastern shore of this great Lake. Once a rail bed, it now connects VT with points north and south. It's a not-to-be-missed local attraction.

I suspect it has been named to a list somewhere of best bike paths in the country! Soo scenic! if possible: 1) go midweek to avoid crowds and 2) Bike north to Colchester, out onto causeway, and then take the bike ferry across "the cut" so you can continue biking into So. Hero. Check the ferry schedule first. Contact Local Motion on the bike path downtown Burlington. Rentals and maps available there.

Mostly flat and mostly smoothly paved, the Path goes for miles through downtown and countryside. Urban portions include waterfront vistas of Lake Champlain including Burlington harbor and more distant Adirondack high peaks with spectacular sunsets on the right nights.Out-of-town sections lead North to the Intervale and beyond. In the summer, a bike ferry crosses the mouth of Mallets Bay to South Hero and hundreds of miles of country roads (most paved) and State Parks, You can crank as far and as fast as you want on quiet side roads or main roads with wide bike lanes on the side.

Great traffic-free path. It runs much further than advertised if you head on to the causeway that runs several miles into the lake.Bike rentals from the Ski place are great value - something like $40USD for a tandem for a half day.
