Not only does this mountain have great terrrain and snow making, but the people here are wonderful! I ski mostly here and Okemo at this point. Killington is too dangerous - not the mountain, but the rude clientelle who will knock you over without hesitation. People are polite and know the rules of skiing. There are real skiiers here - some of the best in fact. No "ying-yangs" like at Mount Snow, who think they can ski and drop the "F bomb" constantly. People here are dedicated to skiing and having a good time while maintaining their courteous ways. There are plenty of places to eat, chairs move quickly and it is easy to get from one side to the other. The gondola tends to have long lines on weekends and bad weather, but it moves quicker than most places. I waited for 30 minutes for the 6-pack at Mount Snow last weekend. Dealing with nice people, great terrain and easy access is worth the trip for me!
This place wasn't cheap ($89 / ticket), but what a mountain this is! We loved it. I highly recommend the gondola lift.
My family spent a week here and loved every minute of it. so many trails and so much to do after hours too!
Stowe mountain is expensive and not for beginners, but a great ski resort for more advanced skiers/boarders.
It was our first visit there. We are from France but leaving in Boston right now. Before to go there, we used to ski in some resorts in Alps and we were very disappointed by ski resort in NH or in MA. Here at Stowe we finally found something very close to what we had in Europe about the atmosphere, the choice for diner ( Plenty of restaurants), a very comfy lodge at Bruce, confortable lifts and great slopes.Of course it's a pricey resort comparatively to skiing in Europe where you can find more bigger ski resorts for much less money, but for here and for what they offer it's totally acceptable. We will come back for sure and we are so happy to find this place.
We were lucky to be there after a few inches of snow. The ski conditions were great. The chairlift were fast enough. The restaurant on top is pretty cool for lunch time with lots of choice and very good food.
This little mountain has been given a complete makeover by AIG. To their credit, this place now has the "bling" that rivals some of great resorts out west. However, the skiing is pretty limited in acres available, and of course, there is always the challenge of skiing on the "ice coast." We also found that the guest services - especially around the ticket desks, was borderline rude. In that respect this place has a long way to go for that western attitude.
It is a typical New England resort with very narrow trails, lots of ice under the snow, and long walks between the end of trails and the lifts. I have never walked so much at a mountain. It is not a well laid out lift system. There are steps up and down for one of the gondolas. After getting off the gondola, you have to walk very far to get to the next lift. Skis on, skis off, skis on, skis off...annoying. There are ski trails that are connectors that cut right across many of the downhill trails. At these intersections, when you slow down to give way to the skiers coming down the mountain, you end up walking. The main lodge is down a flight of stairs from the trail. Walk, walk, walk. One trail had warning signs that there would be a very long walk at the bottom. We saw people taking off their skis and snowboards to carry them when they had long walks. My favorite part of the mountain was the on-mountain food. Excellent taste but very expensive. This is not a mountain I would ski again.
Three days of nonstop snow made it just great. Renewing the main village area, efficient check in and rental process. Teaching was on spot helping an adult and teenager get comfortable. Gondola to top nice, prefer the quad to the other end where there is a lot of blues. Toll road fun with cut through a to make it more interesting. Rfi cards make access speedy... Be sure to get the card and preregister for online discounts
I went to Stowe for a 3 day conference and skied for two days. There were fabulous snow this time, and a good variety of trails, not crowded at all. In the Northeast, I have been to Jay Peak (before and after renovation) and Mt. Tremblant. I fail to see why their lift ticket is worth $108 / day. I think this is the highest in Vermont. (I did have a conference discount that lowered it to about $70.) I haven't found out the selling point of Stowe that make them charge such a price. One local did say their mountain is better than Jay. And they certainly don't seem to have the long lift lines like Tremblant. But in Tremblant there is a village to walk around and lots of places to hang out, although it is very commercialized. Jay Peak is clearly a family resort. They have a water park and nothing else to do. Stowe's shops and restaurants are spread across Mountain Rd which is about a 20 min drive from the town to the resort. So it is not particularly good for those who don't have a car.To be fair they have a shuttle bus that is free. There is a free app that you can follow where you bus is real time. However, don't expect big city / big tourist efficiency. At slope closing the shuttle bus became full and people had to wait 20+ minutes for the next one in the cold. I was lucky to have dressed fairly warmly but a few people felt quite cold. On another occasion the bus that runs every 30 min never came. I was lucky with the bus app and just walked away after noticing the bus was nowhere near us. The following bus was also 30 minutes late and a couple that came back at the next scheduled time was fairly pissed. A local young man waited the whole time (1 hr) at the bus stop in the cold just shrugged it off. Transportation from the airport is also challenging. I had to take a cab to and from the airport in Burlington and they couldn't find me even they knew to go to the custom side. I was there by myself with no staff or anyone near me for a good 30 min. I had to run out and flag it down and I wonder would it just left me there if I chased it. There is no shuttle bus to go to the mountain and cab is $70. The people were really friendly and helpful. There are lots of personal touches and no rigid rules. However, do not expect big resort efficiency and punctuality. And everything is expensive.Because of the price, I personally would explore other mountains and see what they offer before coming back. And I would love to hear what other skiers have to say about why it can charge more than say Killington, Okemo, Stratton etc.P.S. I have to agree with the other reviewer that the clam chowder is excellent, and it's $10 for a smallish cup (tax included).
It was the best tasting clam chowder. We had it in the Great Room restaurant. While somewhat expensive ($10) it was filled with clams, potatoes, onions, and broth. Sipping the soup and watching the nearby skiers was the highlight of our second day in Vermont.
Conditions perfect. Great runs. Lodge the best we have even visited. Easy access. Easy drive from NY. Great food. The bar & lounge great for the nonskier. My favorite East coast Mnt. yet.
$108 to ski for one day??? And almost none of the trails were groomed. We won't do that again. For a well-known ski resort, we were incredibly disappointed.
We were in a big family vacation, all levels of Ski. Really no problem, it suited all our needs. The place is beautiful. And the town of Stowe is a picture perfect Vermont place.
Lines at the lifts went quickly. Food was overpriced, kinda felt like they were gouging for the quality of food served which was average.
