Alpine Valley is one of six ski resorts in Ohio. It offers several ski runs down the side of a couple hills. There is a beginning area for those new to skiing. Alpine Valley also offers a tubing run for those who wish to experience something other than skiing.I am not a skier, so I cannot speak to the ski area. I from looking at the ski rental and slopes, it seemed to be a decent course. My friend who went to this resort and skied while I was tubing said the ski courses were okay. The overall facilities looked good. Food is served, though a little pricey. Most of the employees were friendly and helpful. However, the tubing section was not good at all. The runs themselves are short. Snow tubers are stopped way too quickly, and the "braking" area is near the edge of a big drop off. A snow fence is put across the drop off area to prevent people from falling down the hill, but that did not prevent people from flying into the snow fence. I witnessed several people get tangled up in the snow fence. The tubes Alpine Valley used were not the same type the other ski resorts in Ohio were using. The tubes kept flipping over when they hit the brake section. Many people turned over, including myself. My tube turned over three times within an hour. I ended up hitting my head twice in the compacted snow, the last time very hard. I had only used an hour of my three hour session I paid for, but I was afraid to continue as I feared breaking my neck. (It has been a week and a half since I was here, and I am still very sore all over from this incident.)I have been snow tubing for many years now, and I have never flipped over once during all the times I have done this. But this was the first and ONLY time I came to Alpine Valley. After I got back from first aid (ski patrol), I examined the tubing runs to see if I could figure out what was causing my tube and other tubes to flip over. It was then I realized that the rubber mats they were using to slow the tubes down were not even with the snow. They were sticking up a half inch to a full inch. This was acting like a curb, catching the tubes and flipping them over. Very unsafe if you ask me. The employees here were not paying as close attention to the tubers as the other resorts did. The other resorts had employees who told people when to slide down the hill as other patrons were not always out of the tubing runs. Here, it was go as you please. Several times, there was almost a collision at the bottom of the tubing runs because people went down too early before previous tubers had a chance to clear the path. Unsafe. My other complaint was going to ski patrol (first aid) for help. Luckily, the building was close by the tubing runs. Upon entering the building, there was no one in the room. I could hear at least two EMTs in the back room talking about things. I could see one of the men, and he did make eye contact with me as he ate his lunch/dinner. I do understand that people need to have a break and eat food, but when no one else is in the building to help an injured person, the least he could have done was ask if anyone else was out there or how I could be assisted. I am a teacher, and there are many times that I have to give up my free time because a student or another teacher needs some help. I was clearly not impressed.I had to walk up to the main lodge to assistance so I could be checked out. In the lodge, I spoke with a young lady who was very helpful. She escorted me to the ski rental building and spoke with another guy who contacted the ski patrol. Three of them arrived quickly (two men and a lady). One of the guys checked me out very well. I had no problem with the care I received once it got there, but how this situation was handled was clearly not good. Had management put the rubber mats even with the snow the way the other ski resorts did in their tubing areas, my accident (and those of others) would not have happened. As a result, this is my first, last, and only time to visit Alpine Valley. I will not risk future injuries on snow tubing runs that are clearly not operated safely. I will drive to Brandywine, Clear Fork, Mad River Mountain, and/or Snow Trails where I have tubed safely for many years without incident. I have contacted management about this incident, and I honestly hope they take this seriously.
whenever I turned around, a young man was there to assist- directions to best parking- cafeteria and closest rest rooms- when I was having difficulty buckling my boots- he appeared out of nowhere to assist- it turned out he was Jason- a general manager- who made the day a hit for all of us- three generations whistling down the mountain
They do have some okay runs, but nothing to talk about really. Then again, on one of the runs through the woods on the left side, it ends with a bunch of boulders and if I hadn't been wearing a helmet, I easily could have died. I'd watch out for that if you go here. Lots of little kids too, Really, I just won't come here anymore due to my near-death experience and I'd just rather make the longer drive to Brandywine or Boston Mills.
Had a great birthday party for my son here. Winter birthday's are tough. Everyone had a great time snow tubing, kids, adults, even Nana and Papa! Then into the lodge in our reserved area for warm hot chocolate, pizza, cake and warm up by the fireplace. Everyone had a ball and the staff couldn't be nicer!
for winter activity, it is nice to have a local ski place, even though we are not especially steep in this area, it still gives good practice for when we take the trips to the larger ski areas that are a couple hours away.
Great place to learn to ski or to get home from work after a hard day, grab your skis and hit the slopes. Hills are somewhat small compared to others in the area but its affordable and fun!
Alpine is very close to our home. We own our own equipment so it's perfect when we want to jump in the car and take a few runs down the slopes on a fresh snowfall. If memory serves they have a two for Tuesday specials where you can get two lift tickets for the price of one. The hills are very small, so if you are looking for longer runs this will not be the place for you. There is a tow rope you must use to get to the quad lift. If you don't like tow ropes or have younger children this can be a problem. They do offer tubing and a snow boarding terrain park. When we've had enough we hit the small but cozy bar area upstairs.
long lines and rude cutting kids that ski right over your snowboard with no apologies. A small hill with no supervision of these out of control children. Its most people's only choice so everyone tolerates it. Doesn't mean we have to like it. BOO on the clientel.
This is a neighborhood ski club place. It's a great place for kids to practice and learn how to ski before hitting the bigger slopes. The place is very basic, very minimal food service and minimal decor. But it's a local ski resort. The kids always have fun, the staff is friendly, and all that you need is there. Pack in food and beverage.
only stopped in to see what it offered. No Cross country trails but tow rope and lift for downhill skiing and lots of families were out having fun despite the warm weather and lack of snow off the hills.
