This is a great place to visit and spend the day! This is the first Presidential Library, has special exhibits , just redecorated home, great place to walk, beautiful rose garden, well informed docents, gift shop, and numerous things to see in museum and home! You will enjoy your time here!
The home recently was decorated & especially popular to go to during the holidays! The guides are well versed in the historical parts of the home. The museum has occasional special exhibits throughout the year. Summer time there are free monthly concerts on the lawn. October there is a reenactment weekend.
We took our adult sons to visit the Hayes Center a few days ago. There is a research library within the museum and they wanted to explore that aspect and had high praise for the staff who helped them. The Hayes home, which I would consider a mansion, was just stunning. Our docent, Grace, was very informed and had so many interesting facts to share with us. The fact that the Hayes family history was so well preserved gave us a good look back into life as they lived it. The home itself was a museum of sorts. The museum proper had several levels and was full of items from all aspects of the Hayes presidency. There is a large collection of militaria also. The grounds are simply lovely. The home and museum are only a few steps from each other. Be sure to get there early enough to visit both. I was sorry that it took us so long to visit as we only live a half hour away. I am sure we will return for another look.
Learnt a lot, friendly guides, had fun. Next time I might take a picnic. :-) I was really surprised to find this sort of mueseum in a little town.
This historic house and museum are located in a park-like setting. It's gorgeous. We did not get to tour the house this time because we arrived too late in the day to take the tour AND see the museum. But we enjoyed the museum. And we walked around and enjoyed the property. We saw the house on a previous visit, but are anxious to see it again after all the renovations are finished. The ladies in the museum were very nice.If you are in the area, this is a nice, historic place to stop.
The house and museum are extremely interesting to tour. The recent renovations to the house were done to make it painstakingly accurate down to every detail. It's a great attraction and worth the reasonable admission.
its realy cool you can go in sid the mussem and his own house pretty cool kids will love it. they will have a blast of fun. then the park is free you can look at his grave. the even have a reactedment of the war pretty fun
Very informative & clean & wonderful displays.Just to see what they wore back then & the way they lived. To think one our presidents lived there & his faimly. What a wonderful place to see & walk through, the grounds always a fun experince & very Beautiful !
On the return leg of a road trip from Chicago to the Finger Lakes area, I made a special stopover in Fremont to visit the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center. That's because my mom's first cousin was married to a Hayes great grandson. My special interest aside, Spiegel Grove, the name of the estate, is full of history from the mansion to the presidential library. The two most interesting things I found were: 1) That the iron gates surrounding the grounds originally came from the White House, 2) That President Hayes had a passion for trees and asked all his famous visitors to the estate to touch any tree of their choosing on the extensive grounds. That tree then had a plaque in that person's honor. We are talking about people like Grover Cleveland, Admiral Nimitz and others. Some of the trees are over 200 years old.In addition to the mansion and museum which have a entrance fee, there is the library which is free and where research can be done. The tombs or Hayes and his wife and of a son and his wife are also on the grounds.
Very beautiful place! Unique too. Probably the best thing in Fremont,Ohio. I know this because, I live here!
Amazing grounds and equally wonderful tour of the area. Beautiful Center filled with detailed historic treasures .
We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful place to visit, when I was in grade school we went there frequently, setting is on beautiful grounds and such a interesting place to visit. The presidents home that is adjacent is a must see esp. at Christmas
This is at least the third time we have visited. They are completing some renovations of rooms inside the home to return them to the time of the President Hayes' living there. They even took the time to have special rugs made in England using the same techniques the originals were done. Can't wait to return when they complete some more of the rooms.
Beautiful grounds for an outdoor wedding! Restrooms were somewhat of a walk.
What a beautiful serene spot. The grounds are well-maintained. I particularly loved the fox squirrels! (red)
