I am glad I made this quick stop. I wish there was more info on this spot. The drawings are quite intriguing. Easy to view
This is off the beaten path. Worth a stop if you are in the area. The park is small but well maintained. They have several picnic tables and a shelter area. The trail is an easy walk with cliffs and a small waterfall. We were the only visitors at the park during our 2 hour stay. The Indian writings are interesting but have been subject to vandalism. The loop trail is actually more impressive than the writings. Trails are well maintained and you feel like you are deep in the woods. Great free entertainment for families with younger children. Not sure if it is pet friendly but our dog loved the hike!
We unexpectedly found ourselves in Jackson and stopped by the Leo petroglyph. The Petroglyph is covered by a wooden pavilion to protect it from the weather. The gorge nature walk is actually more impressive. Quite an interesting walk along the sandstone rock formation.
Very interesting place for history buffs and those interested in ancient cultures. Nice hike nearby. Needs a caretaker. Not being maintained considering the historical significance.
You can drive up right beside the actual petroglyphs which are cut into a rock bed. These are interesting and surprisingly open given their historic significance. It seems the Ohio Historical Society might be a little under-funded. While here you should hike down the path beside them which leads to a very pretty old riverbed area that is worth seeing.
While there are some trail areas at Leo Petroglyph, we came to see the art on the rocks that are surrounded by a shelter house. I had not been since I was a child. What a shame to see that visitors are still treating this place terribly and not picking up after themselves. The art is interesting, and the signs around the area informative - but it still left much to be desired. A nice little stop for 30 minutes or so.
