We didn't rent kayaks, but brought our own. We camped at a little campsite on the river and took one truck with our kayaks about 5 miles up the river and put in there and kayaked all the way back. We visited during a dry season and the river was low, but it was still relaxing and enjoyable. We had to scrape over rocks in a few locations and water was only a few inches deep at times, up to a few feet at others. Well worth our time and a good relaxing way to enjoy the area.
Loved the kayak trip we took with friends - a great time! Loved that we had a choice of the 5 mile or 7 mile trip.
Went canoeing in August of 2013. Awesome trip. The water was a little low while we were there. Found a lot of places to stop and let the dog take a swim to cool down. It is a nice trip to take your time and enjoy the scenery. We rented our canoe from the Original Canoe Livery. Very affordable. They took us down and placed the canoe in the water and then you canoe back to their location. All life vests provided and paddles.
My teen granddaughters fell in the river because they tipped the boat because of a spider, but other than that, everyone was happy with this trip down the river. they had 3, 5, 10 mile drop offs when we got there. Don't know if they had any longer, but 5 miles was right for us that day.
The beach was somewhat dirty as was the grassy area. Would have been nice to have a few more shaded trees at the beach area. The kids enjoyed the swimming area and the scenery was beautiful.
Just got back from Logan and something you REALLy should know if you want to rent any type of canoe, pontoon, or ATV. Be ready to spend $ ..which we were...however, you want to call and reserve what you want in ADVANCE. We planned a whole morning around a pontoon adventure ..and couldn't get one. Then decided on a canoe but River place doesn't rent out after 6pm. - It was 91 outside and I can't take the sun so I wanted to wait till around 7:30pm and just go out for about an an hr.....no can do. All the places we checked didn't open till 9am...so early mornings were out too. For the price of the ATV's and the heat we decided to skip that..so we left Logan and the only thing we did was hike to Old Man's Cave (Worth it!) and swim at the hotel :(
The river was really low and we found it difficult to get through the river without getting stuck. We still had a great time, but I would recommend checking the water level before signing up for a day of kayaking or canoeing. The view was nice along the way and other than getting stuck a couple of times, it was very relaxing. We rented our equipment and transportation from Hocking Hills Livery, and we were very pleased with the prices, equipment, and service.
The river would have been great if there had been any rain the previous 2 weeks...it was a little low in some spots as a result.
River was not as clean as I like them to be.I felt it was standing water not a river. It has been a drought thou.
I have been to Hocking Hills several times and will continue to return. This area is beautiful and well worth the time to reboot your system in nature.
Great lake and beach at Lake Logan, not over crowded and clean
We live in a small cabin located next to Scott's Creek which flows from Lake Logan into the Hocking River. We have a beautiful view from our window of all that each season has to offer.
Last weekend a group of us went to Hocking Hills to view the changing of the leaves. We walked to Ash Cave, Cedar Falls, Old Man's Cave and the Rock House. There were so many beautiful places to look, it just took my breath away. There were rock formations to climb, stone bridges, tunnels through the rocks, falls, rock stairs to climb, and so much to see. If you like the outdoors, this is an awesome place to visit. They even have some handicapped assible areas. It was an invigorating weekend of fun. We are already planning our next trip in the spring to see the leaves come alive again.
