Life-long Ohioan who now lives in Portland and I am visiting this place for the first time - what a TERRIFIC experience! Tons of photos, articles and information about the Shaker religious community from the 1800s as well as the developers of Shaker Heights in the early 1900s. It's a great museum plus they do a number of events, garden open houses and neighborhood bicycle tours. Support this lovely asset, it's a gem!

The special exhibits are always interesting and informative! Might appeal to locals more than out of towners, but worth a visit regardless of where you hail from. Love that an old historic home was repurposed as a museum. After you visit, take a family-friendly hike around the Horseshoe Lake grounds right across the street.

Tells a little about the history of Shaker Heights, OH along with the early Shakers of the area. Time required about one hour,.

This museum is part of the Ohio History Connection (formerly Ohio Historical Society) museum sites throughout Ohio. The museum is located in residential area of Shaker Heights and with a nice park across the street. Museum does a very good job to give historical perspective of Shaker religion beginnings and how it fits in the shaping of Ohio history - plus the surprisingly and amazing innovations from the Shakers. Beautiful garden around the house. Worth the visit. Note - call ahead or look at website for hours of operations (not usually open on Saturdays).

Yhis is a quaint little museum. A manageable small place for a group of young children. It was informative educational

I happened on this museum on a rainy day and am now an addict. Who knew eastern Ohio had contributed so much to our nation's history. A must stop for locals and locals introducing friends to our fine piece of America.

This is a fairly hard to find little museum located in a historical house in Shaker Heights, OH. There is a short video about how the Shakers got started in northern Ohio, a room or 2 of Shaker artifacts, a changing exhibit room and a large library for researchers. The house itself is in Shaker Heights and there is an exhibit dedicated to the founders of Shaker Heights. The house serves as the headquarters for the Shaker Historical Society--see their website for further information. After we toured the house we drove along the boulevard and viewed the enormous houses. Shaker Heights was the place to live for the elite and from the looks of the houses and grounds it still is. Worth your time but I wish there had been more about the Shakers and more interactive displays--perhaps that's their idea for the future.

I really really like history, so most artifacts that predate my birth ('83) are interesting to me. That being said, there are about a half dozens rooms to look at some century old domestic items and then a little video on the shakers origin, which is a good little video, kinda a crazy little story on how the shakers came about. But I think for the average person, this place would be a bit underwhelming. I would have liked to get a nice tour of the whole house, but I have a feeling most of it was offices. Lovely place though, and the woman who worked the desk was very kind to me.
