These performers could hold their own with any Broadway troupe, and they show their stuff in one of the most welcoming theaters anywhere. The seating is comfortable, the view is unobstructed no matter where you are, and the leg room is extraordinarily generous. If you like G &S and other light opera fare, you should spend a week or so with OLO. You'll be delighted.
This company brings first rate performers and musicians to Wooster for a summer season that is varied and entertaining. Some visitors come from all parts of the country year after year after year.Read the schedule and the reviews. If light opera is one of your interests this company is first rate.
The best thing that they have going is that you can see shows here that you will not see anywhere else. But usually they have no better production values than any average college production. their chorus is the only superior quality.
The talent, production quality and facility are wonderful. We will return. This is a gem in a quaint little college town. We were blown away by the soprano Friedlander.
Some of the best musical theatre in the Midwest. Be sure to see a show with Ted Christopher in the cast.
So lucky to get internet offer when I did. Wooster Food Tours was just getting started and they offered discount tickets to the opera. What a surprise to do this on short notice. Great tour director Sara took us to places we have never been and tried food we never had even though we have been to Wooster many times and seen many plays here. Usually tickets aren't easy to get and the theatre appeared sold out. Extra bonus: Tuliapan, a Hungarian restaurant. Just love their open-faced sandwiches, homemade soups, wonderful Euro style bakery.
High level singing, acting, and direction and energetic performances of old favorites and less commonly heard works. We saw 7 different shows in 4 days, ranging from My Fair Lady to Die Fledermaus and Victor Herbert's Dream City and the Magic King.
The OLO keeps getting better and better and is absolutely amazingI just was there last week to attend a symposium hosted by them to some of the greatest scholars of musical theater. It was open to the public at a tiny fee and included 16 lectures 3 concerts, fantastic shows with all professional singers, and a full excellent orchestra.I am totally coninced this is a unique festival in the world and worthy of a visit. The director is head of one of the finest music schools in the US. In the summer he devotes his time to giving his audiences the best entertainment available any where in the English language. The Specialty are musical shows and span European fare as well as US, This year an audience could see Gledermaus, Call Me Madam, My Fair Lady early Victor Herbert, early Jerome Kern, Pirates of Penzance etc. The theater is super comfortable. The acoustics are excellent and the talent showcased is fabulous. It is really a treat and should not be missed.
I love the opportunity that OLO offers to see rarities of musical theater with excellent staging, costumes and big voices. They deservedly got a Trip Advisor award this year.
My wife and I have attended the Ohio Light Opera twice. It presents a neglected repertoire in good professional productions. Wooster is convenient to Cincinnati (where we live), Columbus, and Cleveland. A matter of concern is that the Freedlander Theatre is not equipped with a hearing-assistance system, something which would be helpful to many patrons.
My Fair Lady was terrific in every way. The sets, the voices, the acting, the costumes all were excellent. I don't know when we've spent such an enjoyable afternoon. We came out smiling and humming. We have been wanting to make a visit to the Wooster in the summer to check out the light opera venue. We'll be back.
Choose from a variety of offerings, and plan to stay for at least two of Ohio Light Opera's productions. Visit the helpful website.
Ohio Light Opera is a phenomenal company of talented actors. The shows are always great, the orchestra is wonderful and there is not a bad seat in Freedlander Theater. On this trip, we saw both Der Fledermaus and Call Me Madam. Both were extremely well done. The casts had a great sense of comedic timing and there wasn't one weak link in either cast.
Awesome show! Actors and actresses are extremely talented. The whole show I was thinking, I know a WHOLE bunch of people who are much less talented than these people but earning a LOT more money and are A LOT more famous.
For a Birthday getaway, we chose a B and B in Wooster to attend the Ohio Light Opera. We absolutely enjoyed the professional performance of Call Me Madam. The voices of the main role characters was outstanding. The costumes were also professional. The sets were minimal but the performance more than made up for the staging.I have performances in NYC and London many rimes and the quality of these actors were surprising wonderful for a summer theater or any theater. The wonderful voices and songs were accompanied by an excellent orchestra in the pit. I would certainly recommend this experience to everyone who enjoys a professional musical performance.
