This hike is wonderful! Most of the time you are hiking above the Salmon River and accompanied by the music of the water pouring down. After @ 90 minutes, the views are spectacular -- open canyon and glorious. A few steeper ascents, but thoroughly enjoyable!
This trail is one of our favourites and you'll often find my husband and I tromping this gem. It is easy to access, and the beauty starts at the trailhead and never stops. It's changes seasonally, but the beauty of the Salmon River and the old growth along this trail never looses it's magic.
Super easy hike and lots of beautiful scenery and nature to behold, including seeing several salmon heading upstream and in little gullies, spawning.
The Enchanted Forest of the Mt. Hood National Forest. The Cascade Streamwatch trail is definitely a truly amazing outdoor place to be at with its scenic forest setting and the salmon river running through it. Sure does make the trip worth it up here to the Wildwood recreation site in Mt Hood national Forest. I came here last Saturday with my nephew of 13 and he truly enjoyed what this place had to offer, with its and believe you me, it truly offers a lot, from anything with a beautiful view of the trees and the river to the underwater fish viewing area that is very well set up and to finally the picnic areas by the river with BBQ pits which makes for one heck of spot for a great family gathering. The trail has a amazing amount of craftsmanship with its log benches and sculpture of the native fishes of this area like the Salmon and Trout that pass through this area during the seasons. My only disappointment was I didn't see any fish in the underwater viewing area but I will have to make second trip back here just for that. The trail itself was only about a mile and 1/2 long with a few zigzags and a couple of uphill parts which are very mild by the way. There are plenty of restrooms before the trailhead and on the actual trail itself, and the trail probably took only maybe a hour and 1/2 to do.
The Salmon River trail I took was the one at Wildwood Recreation Area. I very much enjoyed the Cascade Streamwatch Trail where one can watch slmon and steelhead in the fish underwater viewing structure. Along the path there were various nice "memorial" benches. It makes it comfortable to sit and enjoy the scenic views. In various places there were also informational signs.Along the trail there were also very nice picnic table areas to enjoy a picnic. There is also nice fish art along the trail to see. There is a small admission price for Wildwood Recreation area; its a day use area only. There are other trails along the Salmon River that one can also take to see the pretty river.I very much enjoyed this area- one that is easy to walk and very scenic.
Easy trail, 2 miles each way. Quite scenic along the river. Busy enough on weekends that your car is safer than normal at one of the many trailheads. Kids can make this hike.
This trail was beautiful. It was a little slippery crossing certain spots but if you get around good it's a great nature walk. It about a 1/2 hour walk u less you stop to skip rocks in the river or stare at all the varieties of beautiful wild flowers I. The woods. A must do walk
We took the trail fromMt Hood Village to Wildwood and walked along the Salmon River. Beautiful hike and wonderful walk through forest and along the river.
Hiking the Old Salmon River trail along the river is a delight. It's easy, only a few miles long and loaded with magnificent old growth Douglas Fir and cedar trees.Take the actual Salmon River trail farther up the valley and do the moderate hike three 1/2 miles to an amazing overlook of the Salmon river. The trail continues for many more miles after that if an arduous adventure is required
Very enjoyable and relaxing area to go for a hike. The trail was maintained really well and the hike was easy. Lots of places to stop to take in the scenery and enjoy the river.
The wood just looked like in a fairy-tale and changed a lot by walking up higher… plus everything was clean, though some poeple stayed there overnight!
A lovely place to hike, without too many tough inclines. Gorgeous scenery - din't miss the stone in the river shaped like a seat, comfortable place to perch for a rest.
This is a short ans sweet family outing area; trails are very well maintained (mostly paved). There are educational boards and games for youngsters. If you are looking for a serious hike, this probably isn't the spot but a really beautiful place for a stroll.
Visiting the Ranger station first will clear up any questions about parking or use permits, but it was not open when we visited. For just a day hike, park at the bridge where the road crosses the Salmon river. HIke in to the Wilderness boundary marker, get your permit (if after May 15), and keep going.Just past the bridge, the trail begins a moderate climb to the overlook above Frustration Falls. This makes the climb worth it. A short afternoon is time enough to make it in and out to at least Goat Creek camp. With a full day available, beyond Goat Creek the trail narrows, there are less people, great hiking and more fantastic scenery. Some tips to help first-timers fit in: This is a friendly place; greet other hikers on the trail and help each other pass. Don't take your kids past the Rolling Riffle camp, it is a long climb for them and it really is dangerous at the overlook. Don't play in the river. And please, pack out your trash!
Awsome well groomed trail along salmon river great for whole family, salmon in river, old growth, lots of ferns and perfect campsights on river, hike in, two to three miles up trail the adventours hikers can take side trail, very steep, not advised for children, down to view frustration falls, final falls, little niagra falls, again, experienced hikers and climbing gear in some areas approaching the falls, the falls are viewed from a very high cliff, extreme caution needed but the reward is awsome. the side trails are not marked but easily found
