When my three-year-old great-grandson came to visit last summer we took him to Science Works. We weren't sure he was old enough to enjoy the museum, but no worries. He was enthralled by many different options and we were particularly pleased to see that children of all ages from preschool to high school were engaged and participating. We also appreciated that the spaces for very young children were separated so that they could participate without interference from older museum goers.
We have taken all the grandkids to this facility and they were experienced everything.Expect a 2 hour visit.
This hands-on museum on the south edge of Ashland is a fun visit for adults but really super for kids and families. Lots of interactive exhibits as well as some creative play options for the younger ones. Really it's interesting for all ages. Some sections are always there, others travel from similar museums. It's open on weekends and during school vacations. Right now they have a tinkering workshop that is fun for all ages.
Not to expensive and a great experience for younger kids! Staff is always very nice and helpful. New exhibits all the time so can try new things. We chose to go mostly during winter
This is a great way to spend a few hours with the kids, particularly on days when the Rogue Valley weather is less than accommodating (often). Many interesting exhibits and demonstrations; was a toss up as to whether my son or I enjoyed it most! Good for about 2 solid hours of my 8 year-old's attention span!
My two grandsons, ages seven and eight, absolutely love this place. I take them here every time they visit and they can spend hours playing among the hands on exhibits. I couldn't tell you what they like best, but they are fond of making rockets, airplanes and other flying objects out of paper. This summer they had some new exhibits like the dinosaurs which actually were so lifelike that their head and eyes followed you. The science demonstrations are also very interesting and educational for young and old.
I love the special programs as well as the regular exhibits. They foster learning in all ages. The different ways that they exhibit engages multiple senses. I'm a very tall 5 year old - you know, still loves dinosaurs - so if you are open to learning about science, take a jaunt down Main and enjoy. You'll be glad you did.
A great place right here in Ashland, well worth a visit. Kids love to do theexperiments here! An easy way to teach and entertain them for a few hours. Sightsand sounds they will truly enjoy!
The recent exhibit of roaring dinosaurs that followed your movements with their huge heads was way scarey!!! Lots of stuff to do for all ages, but give the kids their space and let them go - big balloons, science experiments, films, optical illusions, tests of strength and coordination - plus a whole outside to explore the latest delight is a family of large animals made with plastic jar tops. Must go.
Kids of all ages will enjoy this treat! Lots to see and mostly to do. We have been there with 2-yr-olds as well as 12-yr-olds and it was enjoyed by all.
They continually add or change the exhibits, so it is always fun for our grandsons who are now 10 and 12. They have been going since they were little and still love it. They had a large dinosaur display which was excellent.
Wonderful for kids, inciteful for adults. My twelve year old niece wants to visit The Science Museum everytime she comes to town and she's been coming since she was three.
We go here a lot in the summer and really cold days in winter. Recently we had a heat wave, and enjoyed their AC while playing and enjoying all the exhibits. Nice staff and lots of fun. They do a great job of changing up the exhibits to keep it interesting. We buy the year pass as it's not all that expensive compared to a daily rate.
Science Works is a great place to spend an afternoon. A great hands-on science museum just like you'd find in a big city--but without the crowds and hassle. Perfect for a break from the summer heat or winter rains.
We had some time to kill in Ashland and wanted to find something for our 1 and 2-year old daughters to do. We heard about the museum so we thought we'd check it out. It was a great experience. We weren't sure if there would be enough to do to make it worth the money at their age, but they had a lot of fun and didn't want to leave. There was a special area for children under 5 that they could have stayed in all day. Most of the other areas were appropriate and interesting for their age as well. I would not recommend the planetarium show for that young because it is in a very dark cramped tent-like structure that you have to crawl in and out of that makes it almost impossible to leave if they get scared or restless during the show. The staff were pretty friendly although it annoyed me that they didn't believe me that my 18-month-old was under 2 and wanted to make her pay. I would go back here again if in the area. It was a lot of fun and they used a lot of energy and everything seemed very safe!
