Despite having lived in Las Vegas for 7 years and not being very far from Spring Mountain Ranch, this was our first visit to the Super Summer Theatre. I have no idea why we waited so long. We actually saw their last performance of the 2014 season, "Arsenic and Old Lace". We arrived at the venue around 6:15 p.m. The play started that evening at 7:00 so we had plenty of time to get settled and enjoy our dinner. I read online that the parking opens at 5:00 and the meadow where you sit to watch the play opens at 6:00. I'm not sure why anyone would get there that early unless you are really trying for that front row area. The thought of arriving an hour before the meadow even opens and standing around waiting in the hot Vegas summer sun just does not appeal to me at all. I felt our timing was perfect. Yes, we were seated near the back, but it's not so far back that you couldn't see or hear. I actually prefer sitting near the back because you aren't as closed in with people all around you, and you can easily get up to stretch your legs, use the restroom or grab a snack. Just my opinion. We stopped for some take-out dinner before arriving at the venue and brought a blanket with us to sit on. The meadow is divided into two sections, those with blankets, and those with chairs. Makes for easy viewing. You can bring chairs or you can rent them for $1 (plastic white patio chairs). I saw many people with take out from fast food places, restaurants, delis, etc. Some packed a picnic meal. Lots of wine. (hope those groups had designated drivers!) They did have a concession stand and some vendors selling various items like Cajun fries, funnel cakes, etc. The weather in late September was great. A nice breeze, the stars were out, over all a lovely night. We bought our tickets online for $12.95 each. In July they were featuring "Shrek, The Musical" which is what we originally wanted to see but it sold out fast! So, if something is coming up that you know you'd like to see, make sure to get your tickets online asap. I would definitely recommend this as a fun evening out for families, friends or a nice date night.

Love the surroundings! Super Summer Theater is nestled in the mountains out by Red Rock Canyon. It is a pleasant treat that the temperature is always a little cooler than it is in Vegas - allowing you to picnic and enjoy it.You can take a picnic dinner and drinks with you. Bring your own folding chairs or blanket - or you can rent chairs for $1.The biggest problem - entrance procedures.... You get there at 5, park in a dirt lot, stand in line in the blazing sun for an hour, then it is a massive stampede to get into the meadow to set up your chairs. You can be the first person in line - but inevitably you will get to the meadow to find that mysteriously the first five rows are already "reserved". Policies seem to be mixed - some days you can have your table out while picnicking - other times you can't. Some days they hold the line on people smoking - other times not. Some days they make an issue about people on their phones recording the entire performance - other times they don't care. What it means is that you have very uneven experiences here - sometimes it's great - sometimes not. They have a little concession stand - candy, popcorn, coffee etc. that is very reasonably priced - but many people just bring a picnic dinner and wine.

What a fantastic way to spend an evening. Bring a nice picnic and blanket and spread out under the magnificent sky to enjoy summer theater in the great outdoors. For a very reasonable admission fee, $20 per person on our visit, you can spread out and enjoy live theater presented by an all volunteer cast. We visited when A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was in production. The cast came out into the crowd before the start of the play and interacted with the audience to create a marvelous carnival atmosphere. You can rent chairs for $1 and there are also food vendors available to provide snacks if you didn't bring your own. Great fun for all ages at a very reasonable price.

I love this place !!! Everything from plays to the weather to the staff !! Rent a chair for a buck so you don't have to drag yours back to the dirt lot.Pack your picnic basket and bring a bottle of wine or two (or whatever floats your boat).Get there early, grab a chair, sit back and enjoy. It's that simple !!Oh btw Spam-a-lot was fantastic !!Thank you Super Summer Theatre.

Beautiful scenery against Red Rock mountains entertained for two hours watching Broadway musicals being performed.Bring a banket to sit on or some lawn chairs They have food vendors there and you may bring wine to savor while the performance is going on or your own picnic to enjoy.

In Las Vegas, "local theater" does not imply amateur. Super Summer Theater has a delightful venue, sitting in a natural amphitheater in a state park that will typically be 10 to 15 degrees cooler than it is in the valley. There are no neon lights or gaming so you could forget you are in Las Vegas. The stage, lighting, and sound system are quite adequate. We have found no area on the lawn where it is hard to hear, although we-like other regulars-have a favorite spot and have not surveyed the entire lawn. The emcee invites members of the audience to inform of special happenings that are then announced from the stage, completing the small town feel. The productions are far from small town. Las Vegas has a huge reservoir of talent, and much of that talent is showcased at Super Summer Theater. Vocals are strong and on pitch. Dancing is well-choreographed and never looks forced or awkward. The current "Spamelot" production is hilarious and makes us look forward to the rest of the season.

What a great venue for an outdoor theatre. Reminds me of the Hollywood Bowl in LA. The evening weather was mild, not like the 110F in the Vegas valley. Take your own picnic and wine and enjoy a great production under the stars.

We have been to many productions at the Super Summer Theater and have enjoyed each and every one. From the outdoor location, convenient parking, professional performances, quality sound system. The last performance of the season, "The Producers" was the best one we have seen there. What was totally amazing was the many set changes and the totally professional set designs in this production. I don't know how they pulled it off, put they did. A quality performance by everyone in the cast. Bravo!

Whether you are attending Super Summer Theatre of enjoying Spring Mountain Ranch and parks, this off-th-Strip venue is fun for locals and visitors. If you are looking for affordable adventure and scenery, take the drive and check it out. At the base of high red rock mountains, this site has a beautiful park, theatre and concessions, and hiking trails. And it is significantly cooler than in the valley. Pack up the kids and a picnic and enjoy the greenery, fresh air, and beautiful mountains instead of the flashing neon lights, yard-long sugary drinks, and traps on the Strip.

SST is what you call a local gem. It doesn't seem widely known. But those who are in the know absolutely love it.I've only been three times in the past couple of years. I've seen Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver!, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I wouldn't call any of the productions mind blowing, but the shows are always enjoyable. You go for the event. Bring the family and friends. Bring a blanket and a picnic. Bring some wine. Sit back and enjoy the cooler weather at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. We're going again in a few weeks for Legally Blonde The Musical. And we will continue to go at least once a year.

I have seen several plays at the Spring Mountain Ranch and have enjoyed them all. Always professional level comanies and great plays. Good family fun at a reasonable price. It's nice to get out of the city heat and up to the cool, fresh, mountain air.

For 38 years The State of Nevada Cultural Arts Board, fondly known as Super Summer Theatre, has been providing low-cost family-friendly entertainment with above average community theatrein an outdoor meadow at the famous Spring Mountain Ranch State Park owned at various times by such notables at Vera Krupp (original owner of the massive diamond Richard Burton gave to Liz Taylor) and also the world-famous and yet reclusive Howard Hughes. The shows run the gamut from Broadway musicals to more modern plays with Shakespeare cropping up occasionally. Even in the 110 heat of a Las Vegas summer this enclave just 25 miles from the Strip will be in the 80s and you will likely need a sweater! Bring your blanket and snacks or get them at the concession stand or rent a chair for a buck! Even if the show isn't the absolute finest you will love the braying (and sighting) of wild burros and a gazillion stars overhead. AWESOME!!!

After living in Las Vegas for 20 years we have seen our share of great shows on the Strip. However, there is nothing like a community theatre experience, and something truly magical about sitting in a grassy meadow, with take-out food and a bottle of wine, under a cloud of stars. We have been going to see plays at Spring Mountaing Ranch for over 15 years. Each has been a unique experience, but the venue itself provides a kind of nastalgia that the Vegas Strip just cannot match.

I've been enjoying the beautiful venue - in the Spring Mountains - for eight years. Every show (musical) is a delight to hear a joy to see and sitting under the stars is a wonderful way to cool down on a hot day, since it's about 10 degrees cooler at Super Summer Theatre. The shows are varied each year (from June thru Sept.) and the talent from the different productions companies can't be beat. Just think you are away from the strip where you can sit and eat outside while you are waiting for the show to begin. Gates open at 6 and the show generally starts around 8. The sound system is wonderful - the air is clean and refreshing. Each show runs around two and a half weeks + and getting your tickets at Prestige Travel is easy and only $12.00. The line-up of shows gets better year after year. I feel it is definitely worth your while to take a trip and see this wonderful venue. Close by (Bonnie Springs) is a cute restaurant with good food - and an interesting place to see, and it's only one mile from Spring Mountain. Be with nature and enjoy the delights of each musical.

We have enjoyed productions at Super Summer Theatre (SST) for decades. What a wonderful and inexpensive way to spend an evening under the stars. Buy your tickets early as they are a little less in cost and the GREAT productions often sell out! Arrive as early as possible (gates open at 6pm and the shows generally start around 8pm after the sun sets) and mingle with other early arrivals then grab the better seats or grass area! Either sit on your blanket and/or use your own backrest style seat to watch the show. Prior to the show, you are welcome to use a regular height chair in the blanket area while you enjoy your meal but know that your butt must be on the ground and chair removed during the show. The chair area offers good viewing too. You can lug in your own chair or rent one for around $1. Bring a light jacket as it might get just a little nippy after the sun has set. Plan to bring a picnic supper and we’ve always brought wine and/or beer if you’re wondering if it’s okay. There is a handicap parking area. If you park in the regular parking area, know that you will have a couple of steps to navigate with your ice chests or rolling whatevers (we use an old Radio Flyer wagon to haul in stuff then use the wagon as our serving table).I can go on and on about how fun an evening at SST is as a date night or time with friends and family. Does your service organization need a project? SST always needs volunteers to take tickets, assist in parking, help run the snack bar, etc. We’ve had the pleasure of volunteering several times. This isn’t a plea from SST – volunteers are priceless and I can see how SST can’t function without them! So…treat yourself, your kids, anyone you care about to a fun evening of great theatre under the stars in Red Rock Canyon at Nevada’s best-kept secret.
