The musuem has a number of pieces of railroad equipment on display. Was hoping to see the model railroad exhibit, but this was closed as was the caboose that the lady in the gift shop said was open. Most pieces of equipment had signs telling the history of that particular piece. There are Saturday and Sunday rides from the museum to behind the casino about 20 minutes each way. The ride is not scenic in my opinion - great view of the highway along the tracks. $10 for adults for ride - viewing the equipment no charge.

This is a small, but interesting outdoor railroad museum, with an enjoyable 30-minute train ride through the desert. The volunteer crew was friendly and enthusiastic. The displays were well done. A walk through the mail car was interesting, and life in a caboose was detailed. There is a cute little gift shop with a wide variety of railroad merchandise. We had a great morning among the trains.

Having visited many rail museums, this one was small but had some unique artifacts to view, all for a small donation. The mail car had some interactive items as well as a video explaining how the mail was handled back in the day. The wooden caboose was a big hit with the kids as they could climb in, around and on. The EMD G-30 diesel was pulling the train the day we were there (Saturday in Feb), however we were unable to ride due to time constraints. Nevertheless, if you can, ride the train.

This place is a gem! Fun, inexpensive and informative! During holidays they have special train rides, like the Halloween train which also features and pumpkin patch and a Santa train during Christmas. Don't miss out!

This was an accidental discovery on our way to Las Vegas, and it is worth a stop. It only runs on weekends between February and December. The 40 minute train ride is a bargain, and you know it is a hit when a 15 year old girl enjoys the ride, exhibits, and then asks to stop at the Railroad Pass Hotel to visit the museum room.

The era of the steam engine and rail travel. Visit restored rail cars and take aride on a steam powered train. Take a donkey engine ride to the restoration yard and see other rail cars being restored or waiting for restoration.

I probably wouldn't go if I was just coming to Las Vegas but if you live here or have family here it is a must see. My kids are 4 and 3 and enjoyed it. (We did too.) Check the website for the weekends they run the 7.5 gauge model trains you can ride.

The Nevada RR museum in Boulder City is a great place, even when it is closed. You are able to sit in and around several of the museum engines and cars and think about those bygone days of railroading. You are able to look around and see the old yards of Boulder City where hundreds, or thousands of cars brought supplies, and workers out to the Hoover Dam as it was built. Did you have parents, or uncles who worked on the Hoover Dam? Maybe family that ran a restaurant, or worked for Six Companies? One is able to sit and listen to them as you look at the trains.

Very interesting to see the old locomotives from the past. They are huge. Lots of history from a bygone era. The last train leaves at 2:30, so be sure get there early, to ride the rail

Brought the entire family and grandparents along to experience the Nevada State Railroad Museum. We all had a blast especially the kids. Our youngest got the opportunity to sit in the "drivers seat" and pose for photographs. A memory he will no doubt cherish. Explore the trains, browse the gift shop and of course ...take the train ride!! ENJOY!!Thanks Nevada State Railroad Museum

I have seen many old trains on display and this is very similiar, old trains, set out nicely, that you can read about, most you can not get on and actually look at, this is all free, but then you can pay $10 and take a ride on the train, its about 40 minutes long and goes outnand back on about 4 miles of track, cool to ride on ghe train in a pullman car or open air car and feel the rails and see the area.

This a small museum but well worth a stop. We stopped by midweek and was able to walk around and look at the trains. The train ride and gift shop is only open on the weekends, I believe.

Good experience with young children. Train ride was fun, fairly short, very comfortable. Kids enjoyed the free ride through the bone yard.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum is one of two such museums - the other is in Carson City, in northern Nevada. This facility has a number of old steam engines and railcars on static display (there is a weekend diesel short haul excursion next door), as well as a large number of unrestored rolling stock waiting for the funds to be refurbished. Of particular interest is the small yellow diesel-electric switch engine with the logo "Jackass and Western" on it's side. This was one of four locomotives that were used to haul nuclear-powered rocket motors from their assembly site to the test cell at the Nevada Test Site some 75 miles north of Boulder City. This was a promising 1950's project that was shelved because of other priorities.

It is always fun to find bits of a state's history and a small hidden gem when you expand your horizons. This lovely museum and train ride was a combination of both. Run by volunteers who lovingly care about trains and their place in Nevada history, this is a fun family attraction. Open on the weekends you can board some restored Pullman cars pulled by a restored steam or Diesel engine. The ride is about seven miles back along the Boulder Highway to the Railroad Pass Hotel and Casino. Knowledgeable guides provide history and information as you go. An added attraction is the 10 minute ride into the train yard to see the cars waiting to be restored, if money becomes available. Also, one weekend a year (in April) a group of re-enactors use the train to put on an authentic Wild West show including a robbery off the train. It's very fun. Cute gift shop and train cars to see on the tracks.
