There is a little bit of everything in here - you really don't know what you're going to find, which is fun. The owner was incredibly friendly - flirting with my daughter, and giving her some really great deals, to be honest! Very sweet man, and even went to the trouble of finding and climbing a ladder to get a wall hanging high off the wall for her...
Small shop with items from around the world. Belly dance costumes, saris, jewelry, and much more.Owner and son are very helpful and chatty!
We spent most of the day Walking around Gold Hill and Virginia City. It was really a step back in time. The buildings are still original and showing it. We walked around the Cemetary of Virginia City which proved to be very intersting and had great views of the town. It's a great spot for some great Pictures. Worth seeing If your into the old West times.
Really intersting shops. Nice people willing to share history One candy store, not the fudge place is really cute for family lunch with a couple of booths hot dogs big ice cream cones Any thing you want along the street T shirts leather goods dolls antiques Worth the windy drive up the mtn from Reno
C street in Virginia City, NV is absolutely amazing! We spent half a day here and started with a fantastic burger lunch at the Palace Saloon (they had books on the table that gave us a few laughs) and then just walked the town. One of our favorite stops was the Washoe Club - we couldn't walk through the bar or the area of the club much with young kids, but we had to stop at the front door and take a picture with the poster of the Zak and his team from Ghost Adventures - we are fanatics about watching that show and Ghost Hunters! I got some beautiful glass necklaces for only $4.00 a piece, the candy store was just unbelieveable, had some great ice cream and just, overall, a great time with the kids and family!
A wonderful history walk. Visit all the shops, saloons, and restaurants. Also the historic hotel. There is so much to see. Be sure to go into the Pioneer Emporium. It is the best gift shop in town. The owner hand makes cowboy hats. There are also some great places to see on B street. Lots of Victorian houses. Enjoyed myself.
C Street in Virginia City Nevada is a fun place to go, there are so many old shops and you walk along the original boardwalk. There are many historical things to see and read along the way. It is an uphill walk if you start at the bottom and can get a little tiring if you don't stop along the way. Also, go to the visitor's center they will provide lots of info and have some discounts for the Stagecoach Ride and Ride on the train. We did both and recommend them, the Stagecoach was fun and fast gave you a feel for how people traveled years ago.
If you are visiting Reno then you should take this drive to Virginia City. Starting from Reno take the 395 south to Carson City then Hwy 50 and follow the signs to Virginia City. The drive alone is well worth the trip and it's a complete loop back to Reno so you do not have to repeat the drive back. The town itself has been well maintained in it's original condition and is a treat to stroll along the old wooden sidewalks. It is a tourist town so expect the usual souvenir stores and fares but the saloons are neat and a few unique stores for shopping. One disappointment was that the original saloons have been crammed with slot machines, I would have preferred that they kept them more as a saloon and minimized the slots but this is Nevada. A lot of good family attractions to see with interesting historical tidbids on the area. We went in October and it was fairly busy so in the summer it could be quite packed.
Nice place to visit. Looks more like Wild West Disney than a real town. The streets, stores looks like a wild west movie. Just like the Bonanza TV series. So beatifull you don't believe it's free.
Virginia City is a step back in time. An old silver mining town with lots of history and lots of "ghosts". So many of the orginal buildings, great saloons, neat little shops and the friendliest 'locals' I've met. There are several small museaums and tours to take. Great old hotels to stay in. The town pretty much rolls up the sidewalks between 8 - 9pm so get an early start. This is a great place to spend a weekend or at least a day. I suggest you go spring - fall as winter time the place is stil fun but pretty deserted.
We went to Reno with friends in June 2011 and took a day trip to Virginia City....awesome old western town....cute shops, old catholic church and old opera house....just a neat suprise. Didn't think it would be that much fun.
Most people come here as daytrippers for the gambling, shops and restaurants along C St. but never look deeper into what really makes this old west town really fascinating...the history. VC is like a whole museum town with alot of the authentic buildings still standing along the main (C St.) street and side streets. There are museums to visit to discover its colorful history and just using their walking tour guide (obtained at the visitor center on C St.) to observe some of the beautiful 19th C Victorian architecture and the history behind them. I recommend making an overnight trip here. The best time to do the walking tour is before 10am and after 6pm when the shops close and most daytrippers are gone. The streets are alot quieter including C St.. There are several historic hotels, B and B's, and motels to stay in. There are some restaurants and saloons with gambling that do stay open after 6pm. When we fly in and out of Reno we like to stay in VC instead of Reno the night before we have to leave as VC is only a 30 minute drive to the Reno airport. Most of the lodging is in town or a short walk to town.
This is my favorite place to visit. It is so nostalgic and warm. The shops and merchants are friendly. Highly recommend.
Very impressing to see this street so well kept and beautifully restored in it's authentic state, even the sidewalk with the wooden floorboards are still there. It's my kind of town, Virginia City is!!I wish to come back again soon.
