I live nearby and love to bring the kids when we can afford the steep prices. They let you bring your own floaties but also provide noodles to use. The pool is large and the soaking tub is hot and just deep enough to sit down in. It is old and run down with peeling paint and the smell of mildew in the dressing rooms but that's just character, right?
For those who like a commercial hot springs, with filtered water, privacy and swimsuits, that is available at Keough Hot Springs. For those who like a natural hot spring, with not so clear water, with the possibility of clothing optional but with a great view of the Owens Valley and the White Mountains, there is another spot not far below the commercial venue. The commercial venue is nice, but it's not Calistoga Hot Springs in Napa... It could use a little paint. Likewise, the free and natural spring has always provided a great experience. Be careful for broken glass at the natural place. Of course the commercial venue has a fee and there are bathrooms and things for sale. At the natural spring, there are no facilities.
Seemed like an interesting idea to have the hot springs water accessible without having to sit in a hole in the ground somewhere else (as referred to by some other posters on here which may be free, but also have most people stripping off to enjoy the waters which didn't suit my husband or myself really). This instead was refreshing, clean water here in a contained environment. We walked across as were staying in one of the trailers. Entrance was included in our trailer rental charge. There were plenty of loungers, and it nice and quiet when we swam (4pm on a Friday). There was a nice friendly girl in the gift shop (where you can buy a selection of what seemed to be quite random items). There were various flotation devices so you can literally lay back and relax in the warm water. The hotter, smaller pool is hot tub temp and really relaxing. The cooler larger pool is lovely too and has a spray of hot water coming right out filling the pool with constant fresh naturally heated water – if you stand right underneath it, it’s pretty hot but very enjoyable. It is slightly retro and so you might spot patches where the paint is worn away or looks a little tired, but in our opinion it all added to the experience and is part of the character of a place like this - if you want pristine and shiny, go to a Spa in a posh hotel but if you want authentic and relaxing, this will do the trick.
I was so excited to go to a hot springs, but found this particular establishment disappointing. I felt like I was at a poorly kept community pool.
Went to the pool/soaking tub; $10 to get in and although the mineral water was nice the facility was poorly kept...peeling paint and overall not clean. There is another option to go to the free springs just down the road. Although these are clothing optional and perhaps not for everyone, I found it to be a much better choice.
After finding this hot spring 4 years ago and have stopped by at least 5 times to soak and clean up. There are five pools of warm water in an outdoor setting. Great for a morning or evening place to relax. Pools are shallow but clean and warm. Some nudity but still ok for a family or those who are modest. You just pick your pool, strip and enjoy. Lots of backpackers stop by and clean up after a long trek and skiers and tourists just love to soak in the warm water in a beautiful and outdoor setting. Best thing is it is free.
I was passing by on a very hot day. I seen the sign for Keough Hot Springs. I pulled in and paid my $10 dollars for the day use. Played for 5 hours in the pool. Great people love the spray of water over the pool. They have a nice little snack bar near the pool for when you get a little hungry. I will be back. This was a great way to break up my long trip.
Stayed here in a tent cabin one night while passing through with my son. Very nice tent cabins for good price and great pool and soaking pool. Must have been in the water for 6 hours it was so comfortable. Only advice would be to add more bathrooms for campground and rentals, only had two and they were very busy in the morning. Would definitely come back!
I was intrigued to visit, because the pool is fed by natural hot springs. At the site, there is little evidence of the natural spring.....the pool reminded me of a London Lido, except it was built out of wood. Yes it is slightly dated and a tad shabby around the edges, but we enjoyed our brief time here. We were half way through a long car journey and this was revitalising. There is a large pool for swimming and a hotter one for just soaking in.
Tent camping was good, rabbits, quails, and found a snake. Bathroom where very clean but bring your own hand soap. Pool felt great and we could have spent the whole day in it.
The pool is enclosed by walls and offers a great swimming experience that is different than other pools. The water is very warm hot springs and the pool is large. A fun time!
Worth the money if you stay all day. Bring a picnic and you can sit outside or take a walk around the grounds. Pools are big enough that the kids don't get on your nerves. There is always the hot ditch too.
We stayed at Keough's campground, very clean, nice people a great camp host. We enjoyed the hot springs tremendously it was a great way to relax and enjoy some R and R, Siteseeing was fantastic the trees at there best with the beautiful autumn colors. Can't wait to go to springs again.Christina
Love this place and make a visit several times a year even if just passing along the 395. The waters are magical and a good soaking will do wonders for sore achy joints. Nice pool area and thermal baths. Friendly staff and snacks available.
Keough is a hot spot in the Eastern Sierra's. There are many natural, undeveloped hot springs in the area, but this one is nicely developed with two pools of different temperatures, and depths, a snack bar, a nice gift shop and showers. It's quite clean. There is a picnic area, a small nature trail and camping for RV's with hookups and wonderful tent cabins. I rented a tent cabin for our fall fishing trip. The cabin was clean, came with a nice queen bed with nice linens and a down comforter, a small desk, a bench, heater, and a fridge/freezer that worked well enough to freeze our catch. The tent cabins are on a raised platform with a front porch complete with chairs. The fire pit, with plenty of wood included was a nice way to use the smores kit provided. Skewers, marshmallows, chocolate and grahams were part of the deal. The fish cleaning area was close, adequate and with running water nearby. Lighting was poor so either expect to clean fish by lantern or do it in the daylight. The showers, tokens were included in overnight fee, were clean and HOT. I find this gem a great place to stay when you want to camp without all the set up hassle (especially for a short trip) but don't want to be INSIDE in a hotel room. They have a larger unit that has a queen and a twin; but I haven't used those myself. Free access to the pools is included in the overnight charges as well. It's about 6 miles south of Bishop. An easy drive with plenty of fishing on the way -- try Warm Springs Rd. and close enough to ShatsBakery to make it for breakfast.
