What a fun experience. Even had a chance to meet some visitors from England. People seem to know they can bring in their own snacks and have an excellent variety of award winning beers brewed on the premises
Here is a little tip for first timers or out of town visitors. Park where you think you should park and then head toward the train tracks. You won't actually see the brewery until you are actually right up on it. The best thing about Island Brewing is the location. Great ocean view not far from the beach. Medium size tasting room with both indoor and outdoor seating. The outside was packed but that is expected on a nice summer day. Inside was pretty busy too but we were able to get a seat at the bar. The beers were all alright, nothing bad but nothing amazing that made me say wow either. I really wish the avocado beer was more avocadoy. Service was ok. The guys was nice but did't really offer any information about the beer.
Great beers, no food, but after a couple it has a train u could reach out and maybe touch, if ur stupid. I luv the train. Somebody post weekend times.
This place was recommended to us by some locals near the beach and it was a pleasant find. The bar was always busy and has a great atmosphere, relaxing and laid back. They serve a great selection of beers including a taster tray with a selection of different beers in small glasses which is a great idea.Every now and again you see and hear a train thunder past on the tracks outside which all adds to the experience. The have free wifi too which is a bonus.
Small, cozy, beer pub, down that the railroad tracks in Carpenteria..There are tables outside, and you can wait for the train, which is CLOSE, feet, to the tables. What fun there. The beers were fun to taste, with lots of fun, different tastes to choose. Had an avocado beer, wow, and they give you tastes of all. Come in and refill your "growler" glass beer holder.Would go back again.
Many of our local trips to Carpenteria have been to local hiking trails in and around this town.We decided to change up and have lunch and a beer. We entered off of Linden there is a sign that reads Fresh Beer! With out two dogs in tow we saw the water dish outside and parked the pooches outside. The Spot is accross the street. My wife loves the Fish and Chips and I the Chicken burrito. We had a delicious Porter andEnjoyed the the outdoor seating. Bring in your favorite eats and enjoy the great brews. Throw in the great knowledgeable staff and this is a great place!
Island has a variety of beers that should appeal to just about any particular taste. I prefer a one of the hoppier beers, so I'm quick to jump on the IPA. I'm also liking of the Night Sail lately. The large assortment of beers will certainly keep you busy tasting until you find one that i to your liking. The staff is helpful, friendly and efficient, generally keeping you waiting as little as humanly possible. It can be busy on certain nights of the week. I've only been on Thursday evenings which are quite manageable. I'd highly recommend talking to the brewers who are often around. Great guys who don't mind talking about the craft. Have fun!
So super cool spot, great attitude from the entire staff I met. It's awesome to watch the trains pass by, and it's just a great way to pass some time. No food served, but grab some food from The Spot across the street and bring it over, they were cool with that. For me, the beers were just a miss. Now grant it, I don't like IPA's and I think that's their specialty, so take my feedback with a grain of salt. But all their other beers just didn't really do it for me!But I'd say check the place out, seems like a great business with great people, and if your taste is better than mine- you may really love the beer as well!
Today, Saturday, my buddy and I took a quick stop at the Island Brewery. Man, the IPA is out of this world. And, there was a guest keg from New Zealand (if I remember correctly) and it was fantastic as well. If you are in Carp for any reason, I highly recommend a stop in the tasting room. Also, I really enjoyed the banter with the two bartenders. They were knowledgeable and friendly, a super combo if you ask me.
This is one of the best boozing experiences in Southern California. A no nonsense bar manned by 3 or 4 bar persons inside the brewery, with an outdoor terrace right alongside the railroad tracks near Carpinteria RR station. Traffic at the bar on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights is so heavy it can often take 10 minutes to get served and then it takes another 5 minutes to fight your way outside to watch the trains go by. The beer is superb and the crowd is lively and local. In atmosphere it's the closest thing to an English country pub I have found in California, and there is not a horse brass or Toby Jug to be seen anywhere.
All the above in other reviews. Yes food would be nice, however 100 yayds west is the spot. They close early in winter but have longer summer hours. The name says it all. The brewery allows outside food. Fish and chips, great burgers and more. They only take cash.
We never miss an opportunity to stop in when passing through or visiting Carpinteria. It's a small tasting room and has limited outdoor seating, but has great beer and a great atmosphere. It is situated right next to the train tracks with nothing more than a small chain link fence separating you from the tracks. Occasionally you have to endure the sound of the train as it passes. Beyond the tracks is a beautiful view of the ocean. It's a great place to stop year round and sample a few beers or order a pint of your favorite. You can even order a beer for a friend who isn't there. You put their name on the board and the next time they come in their beer is paid for compliments of you! What a fun idea! They do not serve food, but have menus available from local restaurants that will deliver to the brewery. They also serve pretzels upon request.
...it is a fun place filled with friendly locals (many with canine friends)...with great beer. In fact while I was in town, it was announced that several beers had just won first place in a major beer judging conference....highly recommended..,and if you love trains as I do...the Amtrak tracks are just feet fromf the entrance and patio.
I have heard about this place for a while. The scene was hopping and a lot of fun. The beer, was very tasty. My only complaint is that they don't serve food, especially since they are a brewery and I love brewery food. Fun place to go with friends.
This very simple brewery is a must to visit, but be sure to go to the bar at anytime! The staff are amazing, friendly and upbeat at all times. The owners make a point of talking to you too.The beer is top notch, all we tried we enjoyed! If you want to stay for lunch, then bring or order in your own and just buy a ber to go with it!Patio a must to watch the trains go buy and is dog friendly too.
