Really a neat place. The facilities are top notch, and you can go on a guided or self-guided (cellphone) tour. There's a BMX hall of fame in the main building, and a small museum that will bring back memories for anyone who was into BMX in the 70's.
We read about this Olympic training center and we thought we might go there. It was great. There were maps guiding you on a self guided tour. You get to see Olympians practice. It was cool for all ages. Go to ARCO Olympic Training Center.
If you like sports then this place is a great stop if you are in the area. Seeing the facilities where our athletes train is great. A beautiful lake backs the property and the grounds include areas where athletes train in sports ranging from Archery and BMX to Tennis and volleyball.
My grandson and I visited Olympic Training Center. We walked around and saw the BMX course, some of the other attractions and visited the Gift Shop. My grandson was able to get an olympic logo cap a pen and a journal. He was thrilled by the items. It was a hot day, therefore we took water and limited our walking around. It is a beautiful facility with stunning views.
The mountains to the east and Lake Otay (there are actually two) form a nice backdrop, especially when the weather is nice (which is most of the time and a major reason why this site was selected as an outdoor, year around training venue for aspiring Olympic athletes). This is a large site (150 acres) but only partially developed, 25 years after the groundbreaking (1989). Don't forget the boathouse, which fronts on Lake Otay and is located across the shoreline road from the main campus. If you can't get to Colorado Springs to visit the US Olympic Committee headquarters, or Lausanne, Switzerland, to visit the International Olympic Committee, then this is an Olympic "outpost" that is much closer at hand and will convey some of the Olympic flavor.
Interesting place to visit. Grab a free map and take the self-guided audio tour using your cell phone. Although you can't get close to some of the venues, you can see the BMX course, the Athlete's Village, and the Archery Range, among others. You may see some Olympians in training (we saw some of the cyclists while we were there). A fun place to visit & show your Olympic spirit if you are in the area.
I spent a week at the Olympic Training Center on a coach training trip. I had the pleasure of working, eating and enjoying the entire center. Even though I was here for work, it was an enjoyable place that everyone should visit if they get the chance, You get to see the place where our Olympic athletes live and train and may even get to run into some of them if you are lucky. The center has a walking tour where the public can stroll on through and get a feel for for what goes on here.
....but here it is...I had never been to this amazing place until last December. Schools take their kids there for field trips, local neighbors walk all over the compound in peace and safety, world class atheletes practice at various sports and there is a BMX course that is pretty darn cool. The center is located in Eastlake, a high end neighborhood, east of Chula Vista and about 35-40 minutes Southeast of downtown San Diego. Everything is FREE, the visitor center is open and there are friendly volunteers on hand to answer your questions. There is a gift shop and plenty of clean restrooms. As the other folks said, wear comfy walking shoes, hat and sunscreen and maybe go onto their website before you visit to find out if anything special is happening. It is a truly beautiful venue and one that we San Diegans are most foturnate to have.
Not many people know about this fabulous site! Beautiful setting with views of Otay Lakes. If you are lucky, you can catch multiple Olympic athletes practicing or competing. Great outdoor spot for a brisk walk even if you don't encounter athletic action.Wear walking shoes!!
The BMX bike courses are amazing. Check practice schedules to see actual athletes in training. There is also a BMX course that you can pay to go on if you bring your bike and safety equipment. But call in advance for hours.Wear plenty of sunscreen as there is little shade. You can take a free golf cart tour around the entire property. On certain days, you can rent a motored fishing boat on the adjacent lake. It is a beautiful bike ride around the lake.
On arrival you are at the clubhouse. There are a visitor's information center and a great souvenier store showcasing many olympics. The grounds include two lakes, various sports fields, and an archery range. Many sporting events are open to the public.I highly reccomend a visit during your stay in Chula Vista.
The training center is a beautiful facility and Here in Chula Vista is located in a place where the athletes can really train and do what they do best, Chula Vista / Eastlake has a beautiful lake and so many trails for bikes, runners and walkers too. I live near the center and know that area very well. Love it !
Was fun watching them train, good tour and great store to buy Olympic souvenirs. Tour when we went were in the afternoon.
how cool is it that we have an Olympic training center in chula vista! everyone needs to visit this place.
I'm a big Olympic fan, so the tour of the Chula Vista facility was a real treat. I was disappointed that the gift shop was half the size it used to be. But they're expanding the sports venues tremendously. If you walk the Olympic Path, pay attention to the rattlesnake signs. Also, keep in mind that while you can read the signs, the rattlesnakes cannot. Therefore, you may encounter a snake on the "wrong" side of the sign.
