Most of the year Christmas Tree Park is a local's park for Gilroy. But each July in the summer the park "transforms" itself into one of the most fun summer festivals in the San Francisco/San Jose/Gilroy area. People come from miles around to have fun at this festival. We have attended and its all about the "GARLIC"There is garlic pasta and sausages to garlic ice cream. And its all so good. There are stores to buy garlic and garlic products to take home. There are cook offs between chefs to watch; wine pavilions to enjoy a glass of local wine on a usually warm day for the Garlic Festival; there is music and entertainment. There is admission price to go and expect some traffic in getting there; for more information on each year's festival it is best to check their web site. And once the Garlic Festival fades away, it becomes a locals park in Gilroy and not that much visited by travelers. But once a year, the Garlic Festival draws people from all over.

This is mostly a family oriented park in the Gilroy area. It is beside a creek, has playground equipment, lots of picnic areas, places to play ball and a small theater. It also has some hiking trails. However, a lot of the visitors drink too much and sometimes fights break out and they leave the area filthy with food and cans and bottles.

Christmas Hill Park, home of the Gilroy Garlic Festival, is a nice oasis in the middle of Gilroy near Miller Avenue and Tenth Street. Features three softball diamonds, playground, picnic areas and barbecue pits. Don't overlook the trail system, which runs up and behind the awesome Amphitheater. One drawback is the rear parking lot at night where groups of young people like to gather, lending an unsavory element after dark.

It's trails included signage about local birds. It has mostly level paths with a few hills and is a nice place to take an easy comfortable hike and will its natural views are provde a break from living among city dwellers I did not feel any view was especially not awe inspiring. Another upside is it's a public park and free.

Christmas Hill Park is a great place to take children! It is clean and quiet, and the play area has a lot of things for kids to do. Parking is plentiful, and the park is clean. One word of caution...Don't plan to go around the Garlic Festival!

I like the hilly surroundings of the park and how easy it is to get there from Morgan Hill. It's a great place for running or walking. If you like being outdoors and enjoying the golden California hills nearby then this is a great place for you. The International Garlic Festival held in late July every year picked Christmas Hill for its location. Good choice. However, bring plenty of water and wear headgear to protect you during the blazing days of summer. It gets fiercely hot there in the triple digits!

This park is mainly for local recreation. There is a paved hiking and biking trail along a river, a playground for children, and other amenities. It is not an especially scenic spot. The coast isn't far to the west or Gilroy Gardens is worth a visit. But if you are stuck in Gilroy with no money, this is the best park to visit as admission is free.

Love the garlic festival, park is well kept. Easy to get around and walk the levee. Great for picnics

I like the food area to cook meals, lots of shade, away from the kids.Large area for family and guests for about 50 people.

Don't let its location fool you... Although it's on the "older" side of town, this place is pretty awesome. There are jogging trails, two playgrounds (1 for toddlers, one for older kids), and plenty of areas for picnics, parties and BBQ's. There's a creek that runs through it, and the levy runs outside of the park, so it's easily accessible whether you're walking or driving. It tends to get busy in the summer (especially on weekends). So, if you want to have a party there, reserve your space through the city of Gilroy. There is plenty of shade for those hot days. There are sports games going on on the "barn side" practically every weekend in the summer. Keep in mind, the Garlic Festival is held there every year on the LAST COMPLETE WEEKEND of July.
