After tasting at many wineries we were never really impressed with any wines here. Pretty much all the wineries are average. Didn't find a bad one, just a lot of average wines. This place they were very knowledgeable about their wine and took the time to tell you about them which was great. I would recommend going and make your own opinion.
This place is always packed so if you have a group make a reservation ahead of time - they were nice enough to squeeze us in after lunch and I see why - EVERYONE comes here, we were fortunate enough to snag a table outside. They pair their wines with the daily offerings of cupcakes from Enjoy Cupcakes. $10 flight of wines and $10 flight of mini cupcakes was at first a little steep for me but as I watched my friends indulge and enjoy themselves immensely I had to jump in and catch up and it is the best $20 you will ever spend at a wine tasting room. The wines were very smooth and paired well with the desserts and the only thing I didn't like was when it was all over! The place can get really crowded as it down on our visit and I can get a little overwhelmed by this (that's just my nature) but the company of friends wine and cupcakes makes it all that much better! We are looking forward to making this our annual stop if not our quarterly stop!
This was my first time wine tasting in Los Olivos. We went to this place first because our friend that we were with recommended it. The cupcakes are fabulous! I had a strawberry basil chardonnay cupcake, hands down delicious. We went to the counter in the back for our wine tasting. The wine was so-so.. not good enough for me to purchase anything. The serving associate was very distracted, not very involved and not very professional. When we finished the last wine, she was nowhere to be found, so we just walked away...? Despite that, this place is cute, and it is clearly popular. I didn't get a chance to enjoy the patio but it looked like a good place to relax.
Try the (6) cupcake flight for $10. The wine tasting was okay, a little too acidic in flavor. Decor is beautiful. Location right downtown. Plenty of street parking (on a Friday).
What a FUN place with great reds! We have traveled this way for years with our girls at Cal Poly SLO, and now one has stayed there after graduation, so our trips through Los Olivos continue, as do our stops at Saarlos! First, the girls at the wine bar, Cecily and Brittany, are amazing, so much personality which just adds to the fun. they know so much about the wines, yet they come across as your new friends. Share time with them and you truly will have a great experience! We drink reds, so here they come.......so good! The Family Tree is a great red. Actually I grew up with these boys parents, and had I known they were to become such great winemakers........I would have tried to be adopted into the family! For that is what you feel when you come into the Tasting Room, a desire to share with this family and their ability to make amazingly great wines. Enjoy and have fun!
Stopped in on our way north from LA to San Luis Obispo. Husband and I had a flight of wine with cupcakes - sat outside and had a fabulous time! My favourite was The Iron Lady Sauvignon Blanc. Town is tiny. Almost looks like a prop out of a sixties tv show, think Mayberry. Wouldn't have been surprised to see Barney Fife walking down the street! Very close to Solvang so it would be easy to combine the two stops and make a day of it.
I don't care what you're doing....how much wine you've had...orwho's who in town....get your buns over & have a cupcake flight! You should see the glory in people's faces upon scarfing downthe cupcake flight!!!
Wonderful wines. We came here during the week with kids. The kids loved it because they had a mini bakery full of delicious cupcakes and a fun computer camera to take funny pix. We loved the wines. The atmosphere is very nice, has a huge patio with deck chairs so you can relax outside or inside at the bar. The staff was very helpful and nice as well as knowledgeable about their wines.
First off, their wine is really good. My wife raves about the whites. I wouldn't know. The reds, however, I would know and their good. The tasting room is like going back home. Very friendly people and the importance of family and values is woven into everything they make and do. Check out their facebook page and read Keith's posts. It won't take long to see what I mean. Have had many a sack lunch in their front yard sipping good wine and watching people. We belong to the wine club and are thoroughly happy with it. And if you are feeling sinful, indulge in the cupcakes. Worth the diet cheat.
We had no negatives to report on this trip. We met so many interesting shop keepers, terrific food choices at the local restaurants, wine galore and even a gourmet garlic outdoor shop with over forty varieties from which to choose.
I feel bad giving a three for my review but three is average and I thought that Saarloos was average. I guess it is hard because there is so many wineries and so many of them are great. All the wines we tried were good, just nothing special. Same with service and tasting room atmosphere. Both were good but not amazing. I think the thing that sets them apart is that they have a cupcake baker in the winery and you can purchase a cupcake pairing with your wine. We weren't in the mood for cupcakes so we didn't do the paring but the cupcakes looked yummy.
This was the second stop on our wine tour and so far, the best. This place has such a cool relaxed vibe, great music and amazing wine. The layout is original and funky and the staff are awesome. We tasted 6 different wines and all were fantastic. We met the owner Keith and got to hear some stories of how the wines were named. You can also accompany your wine with cupcakes - I recommend the turtle cupcakes with their amazing Cab Sav called Courage. If you are in the Santa Barbara area, go here, you will not be disappointed and you will not leave empty handed after truing their fantastic wines. I am off to Napa this afternoon but this place is going to take a lot of beating, it's really special.
This place has a really cool atmosphere and delicious wine. They also have great outdoor seating. We came here with friends and had several bottles of wine.
Super fun tasting room with cupcakes! Take a photo at the kiosk when you walk in. Super entertaining after a few tasting rooms. Very festive.
The website shows a number of very high end wines. The tasting was all lower end wines. If you like cupcakes (and I do) this is a good place for an afternoon tasting and treat. The cupcakes are delicious with the wines. The wines alone are ok. We are NOT wine snobs but know that are certain things you should probably know/learn when pouring wines. The very sweet young lady who served us kept touching/hitting the bottle to our glass on every pour. This is a cleanliness issue and could cause cross contamination. More bartender less wine server. They have a cute little photo booth where you take your photo and immediately send it to your/others email. So, a fun place overall.
