The lighthouse is not open for visitors. It's a beautiful spot though. For those who like to get stamps in their US Lighthouse Society passports, they have stamps at the hostel on site (not open during the day unless you're staying there).
Liked all, disliked nothing. Sleeping with the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks, visiting with the wonderful people who staff the place, perfect!
beautiful location, charming accommodations, warm and friendly staff.... stayed as a group of about 50 and rented the whole thing for four nights. Teens LOVED it! :)
A funky spot to stop and check out an old lighthouse that is now also a hostel if you wish to stay. It looks clean if you like that style. The view is great when the whales are running as they come right past
This is a wonderful stopping point, it has the best views around! Easy access off of Hwy 1, minutes south of Pacifica. Great local, the beach is just north of the lighthouse.
This place is not very frequented, makes it ideal for couples. Lovely photo opportunities. Spend time on benches overlooking the Pacific Ocean! It is difficult to find, look for sign that says 'Hostel' or 'Montara point lighthouse' on route-1. The sign is discrete. Take 18th street and turn left. Enter thru chain link fence. Make sure to visit the office and make a small donation. Its for keeping the place open - a good cause. We purchased 2 arty greeting cards and a book mark! We shared a coffee here while overlooking the ocean. Good memories! Happy trails! Hubby & I.
Lighthouse and hostel . Nice rocks along cliffs. Good spot for photos. Some history about the site posted in small signs as you go down the hill.
It is always a plus when you can on the beach and/or the trails near the lighthouse and here, you can. Beautiful views!
This is worth a stop and a picture or two, even if you're not staying in the associated hostel. You won't spend the time touring it that you would at Pigeon Point Lighthouse some miles down the coast, but it's a pretty place. That is, if you can find it! It's hardly marked at all on Route 1, and the best way to locate it is to look for the street sign for 16th St. on the east side of Route 1 in the tiny town of Montara, and then drive up the unlikely looking entrance drive across the road (leading through an ominous-appearing gated wire fence), where you'll find a few visitor parking spots. If you intend to wander the grounds, you need to check in at the office. It is advisable not to try to turn into the entrance from the south, particularly at times that Route 1 is busy. (The folks running the place warn about this.) If you're approaching from the south, make a note of the location of the entrance, drive a bit north until you find a safe turnaround, and approach from that direction.
Beautiful historic lighthouse, worth a stop....and if you can stay at the hostel, even better....a lovely place....amazing views, incredible people and set-up.
We stayed in one of the private rooms (with shared bath) for a wedding in the area. The hostel staff is very friendly, and the grounds were beautiful. The rooms were very small, but the view more than made up for that. If you're comfortable with hostel style accommodations you won't finder a better view from your bedroom window in this price range.
This is a Lighthouse and Hostal. The people in charge of the lighthouse and Hostel were very friendly and full of information, they helped me remember another lighthouse I saw up north. Great coast view to the south from the property.
The light on display inside as well as stories of shipwrecks that caused this to be erected were fascinating.Nice giftshop and plenty fo parking with clean restrooms coupled with the affordable hostel on site makes this a budget travelers choice if travelling the PCH between SF & Big Sur
it was a foggy day ... we enjoyed interesting vistas of the lighthouse as well as the Pacific Ocean... we were hosted by gracious docents ... the site has historical significance ... we found easy access from the Central Costa County ... easy parking was provided ...
The area is very beautiful. There is a wonderful hostel on the property. However...we were SHOCKED at how small the lighthouse was. It doesn't take long to visit and get some pictures and enjoy the view and its FREE. Definitely go visit!
