Built in a "cave" that used to be an angora ranch, the location is pretty and intriguing. However, the wine is only average. The tasting is free, so you don't come away feeling "taken", but the wine isn't particularly great.
It's up a narrow dirt road, about 1 mile, from the main thoroughfare. The tasting room is impactful and the whole experience very authentic. As we were making our way to the tasting room, we saw the owner. The wines are hearty and full of body. Service friendly and welcoming. If you like hearty, full bodied wines, this is the place to go. They sold truffle potato chips and different spreads as well.
This is a very nice winery ... not what we expected. They have a nice assortment of wines, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. This is definitely a must stop on my visits through Amador County
The winemaker is a genuine character and makes a visit worthwhile. This Behind the Cellar Door event featured Croatian food, good music and Milan himself in attendance. The setting is one of the best of the Gold Country vineyards.
Interesting cave tasting room, excellent Barbera and the grounds are perfect for a picnic. Hidden gem in Amador County.
We found this place somewhat by accident; we had been to the Spinetta Winery next door when one of our friends suggested we check this place out. It is set back from the road and on the yonder side of a knoll in an old eualyptus orcherd, so it is kind of easy to miss unless you are looking out for it. The ambiance is unique for this area; the tasting room is carved into the hillside under a barn. Bartenders have always been friendly. Wines are good; especially the Kikas (pronounced kick a**), which is a late harvest wine with limited production. Kikas is very definitely a dessert wine, but they have dry wines as well. The owners are from Croatia, and the last time we were there they were organizing a tour group to go back to the old country. The experience is unique. We think it is worth visiting!
