If I tell you how great the fishing is at Eagle Lake, you'll all want to come up and toss in a line. That is what I DO NOT want you to do. I like the lake just the way it is and don't want any more people coming to fish for the famous and delicious Eagle Lake Trout. So my advice: stay away and buy your fish from a supermarket.

Every year for numerous years, the lake level continues to fall. We went to Christie Day Use area on July 3, 2014 for a family day with three adults and four children, ages 3 to 9. We chose a picnic table that was closest to the lake, and under a tree for shade. That put us a LONG way from the water's edge! The kids played in the water and on the "sand." The water was extremely shallow, they sank to their ankles in the mud, and the sand was just terrible, littered with lake bottom remnants of all kinds. We live 30 minutes from this day use area and it used to be a great place to spend the day. Sitting in the shade, the breeze was pleasant, but we were a long hike far from the water and the beach just wasn't a pleasant place. We arrived at 11 am and the pit toilet was almost out of paper. On the plus side, there were few other people there.

Very pretty lake with really good fishing. This lake and the trout are unique and much has been written so I'll just say come here for trout near trophy proportions in a peaceful and scenic setting.

Eagle Lake is awesome. I have been a couple of times, and in different seasons. This year we camped / RV at the Christie Campground on the South Shore of Eagle Lake. The US Forest Service campgrounds are very clean, and well maintained. This is a dry campsite with no RV Hook - Ups, but the Lake, scenery, and the fishing out shadow anything wrong with the campsite. I debated about reviewing this Lake, because it is a well kept secret among many in northern California for excellent trout fishing and camping. The Lake sits at about 5,000 feet in elevation and the area cools off at night in the summer quite a bit. The Lake and its surrounding mountains border the desert to the east and the Lower Cascades and Lassen Peak to the West, nearby is Lake Almanor and Lassen National Park. The Lake is famous for the Eagle Lake Trout, a species that only lives in this akalai lake. The lake is oddly shaped, almost like an hourglass, with the north part of lake being much shallower. The Wildlife around and in the lake is incredible. We saw: Bald Eagles, Grebe, Ducks, Osprey, Deer, Squirrels, Chipmunks, and of course Eagle Lake Trout. The lake water is refreshing on a hot day, but beware if you swim that there are leeches in the lake. Overall, this lake is all recreation, but for us it is mainly about fishing. The trout are phenomenal, the meat is pink like salmon, and the taste is very good. Unfortunately, the lake is very low due to the drought and lack of snowfall over the past few years.

When I was last here we were painting and old lookout building on the shorline. It was a great view and the fishers seemed very happy.
