Visited the Warner-Carillo Ranch House which was one stop along the Butterfield Overland Stage line in Warner Springs. This refurbished building (by SOHO) just opened to the public two years ago. This was a very historical and interesting visit. A docent leads you on the tour from room to room. My only suggestion is that as a hear-impaired visitor, the docent spoke too softly so it was hard to hear her at times. They should have written handouts for deaf/hard-of-hearing visitors so they can read along with the docent as she speaks. These handouts can then be returned at the end of the tour. Very enjoyable drive & visit!

A friend and I were given a tour of the house with two other guests. Informative and interesting. Good to hear of the history of the area. A good brake on a long drive.

Glad to see a snapshot of history! Kids are much more interested in seeing it than reading about it. Take time to show them these treasures.

The San Diego County branch of SOHO (Save our Heritage Organization -- I think) is doing an excellent job of finding and restoring historical sites in the back country of SD County. For many years, this building was falling down and was labeled as Warner's Ranch House -- It is now restored with historical accuracy and given its rightful name of the Carrillo Ranch House. It was for many years a store, as well, on the Southern Immigrant Trail. A visit makes an interesting stop on the highway from the coast to the desert..... and, oh -- they can take you out the back door and show you where the original Warner Ranch house (burned down in 1851) was located.

The beautifully restored Warner-Carillo Ranch House is one of the few remaining "windows" in to the past life of the Californios and how they lived. Take a short docent led tour of the adobe on a Saturday or Sunday to go back in to the past. Life in the 1850's certainly did not have any of the conveniences we have today!

First and foremost, travelers should take note this historic ranch is recently restored and open as a museum. The property is expertly run, and is located on San Felipe road just off the highway. For travelers based in San Diego, Temecula, or Julian be aware of this beautiful ranch house that might be an easy stop if you find yourself on the CA-79 highway.Warner's Ranch is a National Historic Landmark, and well worth your time. The staff have extensive knowledge of the properties long history, which is full of interesting stories, including a connection with John Wayne. As a transit stop, 19th century visitors took respite at the ranch before continuing on to San Diego or later to Los Angeles. A genuine piece of California's "Old West" is sure to be interesting for any visitor.
