It was a vast unexpected world with amazing topography up at the top... This was well worth the steep hike!! Make sure you bring H20 and some snacks to enjoy at the top.
Quite a strenuous hike up the top but completely worth it. I would recommend it to everyone that comes to Yosemite. Maybe not a good idea if you have children.
Quite a climb but well worth it to see this beautiful waterfall. You can view the fall from the bridge if you don't want to do the steps, but the views from the top are well worth the climb.
The hike to the top of Vernal Fall is somewhat strenuous, but well worth the view from the top! A walking stick would be handy for the trip back down.
Oh my! Would be my #1 option when returning back to Yosemite. The hike was great. The ascent to the top of the waterfall can be tough but well worth it! Mist from the waterfall will give you a nice soak so be careful with camera equipment! I've traveled to multiple National Parks and Vernal Falls was one of the prettiest and funnest hikes we've done! Highly recommend. Bring lunch for the top of the falls as it's a great spot for an afternoon relax after a decent hike.
This is a great waterfall to visit. You will have to hike to it and it's a bit challenging, but worth it. You can stop at the bridge about half way, but it's tiny compared to seeing it up close. Don't necessarily need to walk to the very top, but get close enough to feel it and you'll get some great photos. The steps to the top are very steep with few railings. Elderly and small children may not want to try it. Though we did see a surprisingly large number of kids that weren't intimidated. Our hike in the winter was about 6 miles from the parking lot to the top and back not the 2-3 the map says. Definitely take the Mist Trail up, we took the John Muir Trail back because it seemed a bit difficult/dangerous taking the mist trail down when we were there. The John Muir trail was nice and you see the Nevada Falls also from a distance, but there are few highlights coming back that way and it doesn't take you to the bottom just loops back to the Mist Trail. The John Muir Trail probably adds about a mile to your hike back. The Mist Trail is along the river and nice all the way there. There were bathrooms near the start and a little past the top of the falls.
Be prepared for the stone steps, or go the long way around for an easier hike. Beautiful scenery but can be a difficult hike and wet if falls are really flowing.
Since we went in the early summer and the drought was(is) still taking grip, there was little water flowing. The snow pack that winter was minimal just like this year (2015). The hike is easy then gets sketchy as it gets narrow, steep and although it's out of stair-like stones, they're unevenly shaped and tall. Normally if the falls were in full effect this would be covered in mist and slippery making it even tougher. So I guess it was a mixed blessing. It's still worth the effort and many people turned back before it gets tough.
We decided to do the Liberty Cap and Vernal Falls hike. The hike I thought was fairly easy to moderate do wear hiking boots and bring water. The falls is worth seeing along with Liberty Cap.
Moderate walk to there! But it's amazing the nature and the fall. Take much water and enjoy the walk
The hike to Vernal Falls is great - a little challenging without being too much and absolutely STUNNING! Do bring water, sensible shoes and a sweater. In the shadows it can get cold while when the sun's out, it gets pretty warm. And bring a camera because you'll want to snap photos every step of the way.
This is tough for us 55 plus unfit women but well worth the effort. It is unbelievably stunning. The hike up was tough and the stair at the second stage unrelenting. The hike down also very tough as you use muscles that are not accustomed to this. it is a definite challenge but you will NEVER regret the effort. Don't turn back... Just do it!
