It's amazing that there's a place like this in the middle of Fresno. Once you've walked two hundred steps from the entrance, it's like being in another world. The beauty of this park, and the care with which it's maintained are amazing. Don't miss the koi and the peacocks.
Simply beautiful and relaxing. The best place to see fall colors in Fresno. Koi pond and peacocks were fun to watch. 98 percent stroller friendly.
Lovely place to walk when you want to clear your head and get centered. The wide varity of plants and schrubs all manicured and neat, was just beautiful. A must see.
This is the best Japanese restaurant in town. Very good food and excellent service. Sushi was freshly made by their very own Japanese chef. I travel to Tokyo many times a year for work and quite frankly this food is as good as it gets. Well done chef !
A testament to the impact that immigrant Japanese farmers have had on this area, Shinzen ably translates the essence of a Japanese public garden to the alien climate of California's Central Valley. Particularly ironic is the handsome stone lantern donated by the Japanese-American Youth League three years before its members and their families were rounded up and sent off to concentration camps for the duration of World War II.
Take a break on your trip to/from Yosemite and spend an hour or two at the Shizen Japanese Gardens. Very well done, beautiful setting and a good rest stop right off Hwy 41.
This is the kind of place you can go to and almost forget that you're in Fresno. Beautiful gardens, restful walks and amazing views all lend to the "Calgon take me away" quality of this place. The only downsides are the sound of the busy road outside, and having to pay to get into a place inside a place you've just paid to get into.
Great fun and lots of beauty all around! We love taking relaxing or romantic walks here. Great for families, couples, friends, or solo!
I loved the walkways, bridge and the pond. However, I would like to see a Japanese tea house and gift shop. I believe the gardens could be self supporting and provide jobs for the community.
Inside of a huge city park, the Shizen garden is shady, quiet, calm. Not a place for a picnic...I'm not even sure they allow it...but for a stroll through bamboo, through ume groves, with the sounds of the waterfalls.........just lovely.
Thesebgardens are so beautiful and green! The scenery is amazing from the greenery to the ponds full of koi fish. This place is so tranquil and peaceful. A camera is a must!
What more perfect place for a stroll in Fresno than the beautiful Shizen Japanese Gardens. The grounds are well kept and lush, with the refreshing sounds of water tumbling off of rocks into the pond filled with koi. Standing on the Japanese style bridge over the pond watching the fish is a delight, and also the perfect place for picture taking. You often see families being photographed in different areas of these wonderful gardens.
The adjectives that come to mind for these gardens is peace, tranquility and serenity. The gardens are on a hillside overlooking the lake. The walkways are clean, wide and interspersed with shaded seating. There are many ponds filled with fish; there are waterfalls; and there is lush foliage.Bring a book, relax, and enjoy some tea!You might just luck out and see a peacock family cross your path.
This is a beautiful place to visit. Spring is the best time when the azaleas and Camilla's are in bloom. Take the time to walk through all the gardens then just sit for a while. Don't forget your camera. Mid Fall would be a good time for color change. Watch for special events.
I am also a member of the Japanese Garden. It is a nice stroll through the garden and over the 1/2 moon shaped bridge. Benches to rest, a restroom. A fee to get into Woodward Park and another small fee to get in the garden. Only 50 cents for seniors.
