Located outisde of Julian on your way to Banner, you can miss it if you dont know where it is. Theres a nice outside area with picnic tables to sit, but it can be really hot as theres no shade. Theres limited seating inside as well.The beers are great, you can get flights of tasters, and they use muffin pans to hold the glasses.The staff are friendly, and happy to chat to you about their beers. The owner, Tom Nickel, is of course known in San DIego as the owner of O'briens Pub.The only reall con to this place is parking, theres not a lot of space and as the place sits on a little junction you sometimes have to just park on the side of the narrow country roads. I like it!!

Needed to pick up a gift and this place hit the spot. Picked up a growler and headed off to a party. The bartender, not sure of her name, was super friendly and helpful, even friendly to our 3 small kids. This place sells beer and very little else, we did pick up some chips for the kids. It is very small inside with a large outdoor patio. The parking lot is small too. We were there just after opening on a Saturday, and it was not too crowded. On Sunday, later during the day, when we drove by, it looked packed with cars lined down the street. They had one TV in the main room, and a game table in the back. We plan to come back with a picnic lunch.

This was a one and done visit. We tasted six craft brews that they had on tap, and concentrated on the IPA's and pale ales. On a scale of 1 to 5, none of the six were better than a 2, and one was a zero, recognizing that the rating system used includes negative scores as well. After all of the hype about this microbrewery, it was most disappointing to taste their beers.

Nickel Beer Company is a gem in the historic town of Julian. Open Thursdays through Sundays, it is a local favorite as well as a great place for visitors. Tom Nickel, the owner, has many different craft beers on tap. Apple season provides a great opportunity to try the Apple Pie Ale. Stonewall Stout is a favorite among many visitors. In an area known more for wine tasting, Nickel Beer Company is a breath of fresh air and a whole different taste of Julian!
