I visited this center with my wife and 3 kids (11,9,8). The main purpose for the visit was for my wife to see the space shuttle endeavor. We had been to the air and space museum in Washington DC to see the orbiter enterprise before, but hearing that an actual shuttle that had actually been in space was in L.A. I had to take my wife (she is a fan of the space program). We first purchased tickets to the IMAX show "Hubble". We then proceeded to view all of the displays they have of the space program. Since we purchased IMAX tickets, we were able to go through the endeavor exhibit. This was quite interesting. We then saw our movie. This is a fantastic experience! I would definitely recommend seeing "Hubble". It was amazing. The whole center is really neat. The biggest set back is the hoards of little kids that are taken here. I understand they are "learning", but their learning is ruining every other persons learning and enjoyment of the center. Just be aware, there will likely be LOTS of boisterous kids.
We pre-bought "tickets" (they are free, but when you pre-purchase them you pay a $2 service charge for each) to make sure we had a spot during the first viewing of the day. It was definitely worth it. We arrived just as the Centre was opening and were the first ones in the room to see the Endeavour. Really nice for photo taking. It was the third space shuttle we have gone to see (also saw Discovery and Atlantis) and it did not disappoint:) Right before we were leaving the room a class trip came in, so were really glad we had the place to ourselves for a while. We want to go back in three years because they are going to change the display so that Endeavour is vertical and attached to the boosters and fuel tank, which would be amazing to see.
Ohhh WOW this was my first words when i first saw Space Shuttle Endeavour, I am from the UK and this was one of my top things to see whilst i was in LA. The whole science museum is free but i do believe that there is a charge on peak days or you may have to book in advance, Its a superb museum and there are some really interesting space and science exhibits to see in here from the great displays and short films. Endeavour is in a separate hanger and as soon as i walked through the door and saw it i cried its so emotional seeing something like this! Its not every day you get to see a space shuttle! Endeavour made a staggering 25 missions and traveled 122,883,151 miles pretty remarkable so make sure you come take a visit to this astounding exhibition.
I visited on opening day of the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit. I would say that this exhibit, along with the Space Shuttle Endeavor and some excellent IMAX movies make the center worth a visit. But bear in mind, there is a cost for the special exhibits. The free parts of the museum are not included, except for the space shuttle. The rest of the permanent collection is OK. For a city the size of LA, it should be better. Neat to see some of the air and space craft, especially the SR-71 Blackbird in the parking lot. The museum is not in the best of locations, but you can make a day of it with a combined visit to the Natural History Museum or USC. There are better things to see in LA, but this is OK if you have lots of time or plan to see these special exhibits.
Easy to tell that they live on donations. Many displays are old and worn out. The building is HUGE and beautiful, but largely empty open space. The space shuttle exhibit is totally worth the trip, however.
Valentine's Day.Finally got to see the Space Shuttle up close. Closer than I expected. This was the purpose of our visit and to our delight there was so much more to see and do.Entrance is free, Imax costs.
Went with my wife. Great to see the Endeavour space shuttle up close. She most enjoyed the re-entry capsules they also had there. A fun hour worth doing. Allow plenty of time to get here if you're using the freeways in the morning, it doubled our trip time. That's LA for ya!
I brought my two daughters here and they love it. The place is huge. If you plan on visiting try to spread your time over 2 days. There is just so much to see and learn you cant possibly take in and enjoy everything in one day. The children can seriously take over 30 or more minutes in each area station and there are many many many learning stations.
This museum is a must visit to see the Space Shuttle Endeavour. This is a historical space shuttle that must be seen in order to appreciate the our space exploration history. I always amaze by the space and would love to be apart of the history to explore deep space whenever we have the technology to do so.
While visiting friends in Rancho Cucamonga we decided to take the Metrolink and the subway into Los Angeles and go to the California Science Center. My main objective was to get to see the Endeavour space shuttle and was not disappointed. The center is free, but they do accept donations. If you go during the week you can also get into see the Endeavour without reservations or going to see one of the iMax movies. There is so much to see and we did not get a chance to see it all since we were there with a toddler who was getting restless.I highly recommend the center to anyone visiting LA.
Amazing, the Endeavour exhibit was worth the trip! The Hubble experience on the imax was fascinating. Lots of hands on exhibits for kids, actually good deals in the gift shops. Worth a day of anyone's time!
Im came from Europe, so was no question to visit the science center for me. Im just surprised from all technical things, and i felt so close the small piece of history.Everyone who interesting little bit to the science... don't miss.
