I'm a local and I like to visit this spot for their red wines! The setting is intimate and friendly. I like that this is a small and the owners home is right next to the tasting room. Their reds never let me down and it's nice to get away from all of the busy tasting rooms and visit this quaint but lovely space. They do make one white wine. I'm usually not a fan of white wine but this one is quite delicious, I have to say. Plus I love their dogs!!!
My husband and I visited this wine tasting room on February 18, 2015. Since red wines are a favorite of ours, I found this winery on line and it indicated that they mostly make red wines. Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable about the Temecula area. She indicated that his winery did make a white wine but it was sold out. For our tasting fee $15, we tasted five red wines - they were very good. When I am back in this area, I will probably purchase some more. We did purchase a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon - Sophie's Vineyard - which was one of our favorites. We did ask about the wine club and were told that there was a waiting list. The tasting room is a small area but does have a beautiful view of the vineyards.
Small pours for $15 . Only 5 samples. Good red wines. We like Wien better for reds. More friendly. Better pours for $15 6 tastes
We enjoyed our time. The server was great and knowledgeable about the family, grounds and the wine. They ship too! We can't wait to get our wines.
My husband and I really enjoyed this little gem for their outstanding reds. The son of the winery owner was our pourer. He was very friendly and unpretentious which is exactly the vibe of this winery. No fancy tasting room here, focus is on the wine. Their tasting menu consists of 1 white and 4 reds. The winery only produces 1 white wine, so don't come here if white is your preference. We both thought the white was a little too sweet for us. However, the 4 reds were all dry, complex and very much to our liking. We particularly enjoyed the Cab/ Shiraz 75/25 blend and took a bottle home with us. We will definitely be back.
We visited Palumbo two weeks ago as part of our personalized wine tour with Tom, from Wineormous. All three reds we tasted were excellent. The surprise of the day for me was also enjoying their one white wine and their dessert wine since I don't usually like either. It's never too late to learn something new, I guess. We had our tasting while we ate our picnic lunch outside and enjoyed the view.
Most wineries in the area specialize in everything. Weddings, bachelorette parties, chaos. This winery specializes in wine. The knowledgeable behind-the-bar staff also work the winery behind the scenes: picking, making, and bottling the wines. They see everything from start to finish. The quality and care taken with every step is evident in their wines. Beautiful views and a patio to enjoy, the only drawback is weekends can get a little crowded and the parking lot and tasting areas are small.
When visiting Temecula wine country this is our go to place. Great wine and great people. The place is never too busy and besides the excellent wine, the views are great too!
This is a no frills, no food, just wine, family run winery, nicely kept up but small . Was met by the second generation Palumbo and a staff member for the tasting. They were hard at work in the barrel room but came out to serve our tasting. It was nice to see the operation and talking with the family member. They have great reds here. Yes they are a little higher up price but well worth it, they don't produce as many bottles. Would give a very good to the wine but kept it at average based on the tasting room and smaller venue. They are new at the tasting room but give them some time and they will grow. Fee for tasting.
Generally, we are not fond of Temecula wines. They are way over priced for the quality. But this one is really good and our favorite. While it is out of the way and not one of those over done and overpriced wineries, if you are after good wine and good service, go here.
Great Winery at a great location, enjoy beautiful views of the Temecula valley while drinking the best wine in the area!
For those in quest of excellent rich red wine at moderate cost near San Diego do not overlook the producers of fine wine, the small but distinctive Palumbo Winery in Temecula. You will find it difficult to reject any of the earthy red wines that you taste, from exquisite Syrahs to exotic blends reminiscent of world class super Tuscans. One soon realizes that you are placing your taste buds in the sure hands of a master chef as well as a master blender who knows his wines. The staff are knowledgeable as well as friendly and helpful. We are members of the wine club, grateful for the fine red wines produced here and the special treatment that one receives at a small winery. This winery deserves a high recommendation and we are pleased to provide it. It should not be surprising to any discerning wine connoisseur that there is a waiting list.
Great wine! Great tasting room staff! Out of the four wineries we visited, I would have to say this was my favorite. Not on the main road, but worth the "detour".
To my surprise, there are so many small wineries in this part of Southern California. Palumbo didn't disappoint at all. I ended buying some great Cabernet Franc, and although the prices of California wines is at a premium, this was simply irresistible.Only negative which doesn't pertain to this particular winery, is the fee for wine tasting, which is common practice in all wine country, and the high price of the wines sold, given the small size of the winery.
I prefer the smaller wineries and Palumbo definitely fits the bill. Five wines, all reds. My wife and I shared a tasting, which worked out well. The wines were nice, mostly on the drier side. Debbie poured for us. She was very nice and was able to speak about each of the wines. The price point on these wines may be a bit more than some of the other Temecula wineries, but the wines were good.
