On the first and third Sundays of the month local artists display there creations and art work. We stopped early on Sunday morning to find about 5- 10 artists set up. One very interesting individual was Don Hubbard. He settled on Coronado after WWII and has been working in the Japanese art of fish printing, Gyotaku, for over thirty years. We purchased a small piece, would have like the bigger pieces but getting them back to Houston is always a problem. A fountain of information on local history and advise as to where to eat. I really enjoyed talking to him. My guess you can find he and his wife there on those numbered Sundays. Check his work and the other artists work out.
This is a nice attraction loated in Balboa Park. Yesterday they were having the unveiling of their pipe organ. It was not scheduled until 7:30 p.m so we missed it. We did however walk around and we did hear, what I believe was the musician, warming up. What a rich sound that organ has
During the summer months, Spreckels Park is the venue for wonderful Sunday evening concerts. The gazebo in the middle of the park has hosted the Navy West Band, Marine Jazz Band, and many other wonderful bands. Locals and wanna be residents tote their picnic baskets, chairs and blankets for a fun filled evening of entertainment.
A peaceful, pretty oasis in the middle of Coronado. Enjoy sitting on the park benches and watching the park's palms and other trees sway in the breeze.
We have been to concerts, art shows and other events here. It's a nice park. When there's nothing going on in the park we sometimes just go there to eat or sit and relax. It's safe and clean.
This park is on the main street, Orange Ave, in the middle of the town. It is across from the Library and has a small town feel. The playground is great for young kids. There is a gazebo where bands play on Sunday evenings all summer long. Some Sundays there are art sales where local artists sell their wares. You can have birthday parties and special get-togethers there with no permit required. Just get in early to claim your area. A relaxing, well cared for spot with lots of trees and shade.
Every Sunday they have a small band play. It begins at 6 but I recommend arriving around 4:30. Bring blankets, chair, tables and dinner! People also get up and dance in front of the band, it's a great time. It's a fun way to spend Sunday with family or friends.
We enjoyed the free concert in the park this past weekend. Great entertainment while enjoying a picnic. Lovely evening, family friendly.
Great family evening. Be sure to bring dinner and desert. The music is always wonderful and the crowds are so friendly we met so many new people to sit with next Sunday!
Spreckels Park is the local community park in Coronado at the intersection of 6th and Orange. There is a children's playground, bathrooms, and a band stand that is used for free concerts during the summer months - Memorial Day week-end to Labor Day. The concerts generally begin at 6 pm and people picnic on the grass and enjoy music and socializing with their friends/family. Donations to offset the concerts are always welcome. There are picnic tables with benches available on a first come basis, and the park hosts birthday parties, weddings and other events.
There was an evening concert with a military band one evening. Very nice and friendly. The center of the park as a large gazebo where the band was set up
Nothing outstanding here! OK for families and kids who dont needa lot of facilities. Parking can be challenging. Not worth a special trip.
My favorite park in San Diego is on Coronado Island. It is the setting for art shows, concerts, and lazy summer picnic days. The children's playground is exciting, interesting, and safe. Parents actually supervise their own children and join in the fun. The Catholic church across the street offers visitors a place of worship on Saturday at 5 and Sunday for regular services. Always in pristine condition, the park is truly a community treasure.
Spreckles park is great. A lot of grass areas to where you can play with your kids, have a picnic, etc. More than enough opportunity for shade if you are worried about the sun. Great location
An oasis in the center of the Crown City. Art in the Park, Friends of the Library books sales, wonderful free Sunday night concerts in the summer where families bring picnics and folks dance while musicians play in the gazebo. Every day, children enjoy the well maintained play ground while parents visit and church bells ring.
