I used to work at Hume Lake Christian Camps many years ago and decided to take the family there for the first time. We stayed at the Joshua Lodge which is near the lake but back at the top of the sub division. It was a little tricky getting the hang of the location the first time due to the map not being very descriptive, but we managed to find it after getting directions a second time from the security guard. There is another lodge at the bottom of the hill but we have not stayed there so I will not comment on that. The Joshua lodge is basically a bible school that is turned into a lodge over the summer. The rooms are setup dorm style with 2 levels of long hall ways with alot of rooms. I am not sure how many rooms but if I were to guess I would say maybe 40 rooms. Anyways the rooms book fast and can be tricky finding many openings. This is also difficult since there is no calendar showing openings on the website. You have to just try out dates until you see something is open. As for the room there were 2 full beds, a bath room and a loft. There was no TV and the internet signal is pretty bad, but the whole point of going up there is to get away from all that, so its fine. The camp has a meal plan you can purchase that is totally worth it. Really great food and we didn't have to be constantly thinking about out next meal in the middle of the forest. Very nice. With the cabin rental you also get a free boat rental so that is a great thing to do with the family. You can choose row boats or kayaks. We paddled down to the cove and back it was very nice. There is also pool access but we did not do that.Other activities include bike riding, fun kid day camps, hiking, trips to see the giant sequoia, and various camp activities and events. Its a fun place to be and hasn't changed too much over the years but the things that have changed seem to be for the better. I have alot of great memories from Hume and you can too.
Have to go just before the sunset. Don't forget the swimsuit! The lake is beautiful, in the middle of trees and the mountain. Was like magic.
We hiked around the lake. The scenery was beautiful. The dam is a very unusual design. The hike is around 4 miles but a flat hike.
We absolutley love hume lake christian camps. We spend a week here every summer. We enjoy our time in fellowship in the evening. During the day, we enjoy lake, biking, fishing, paddle boarding, swimming. The lodges are always immaculate. The service is always excellent.
Gorgeous lake area. The wildlife, the shores, the hiking trail, the magnificent mountains that surround the lake, and the serenity of the area are breathe taking.
Hume Lake is gorgeous and the scenery can't be beat. The only downside is that it can get extremely busy due to the youth camp on the other side, and the campground. There are areas that you can fish, or swim, and the kids ALWAYS love finding an old sequoia log to jump off. You can rent small boats from the dock, as well.Crowds seem to peak midday and drop off as the the day goes on so if you arrive early or stay later, you can beat the rush.Parking can be a nightmare. Be prepared to circle or try to find a spot on the road and walk in.
Stopped here on the way to Kings Canyon (Like the squiggly road on the map so took it on the way out from Sequoia). Got gas (no premium!) and walked around the general store. People were really friendly, and the town was neat as a pin. Many little restaurants along the street and the lake looked pretty.
Amazing place!! The accommodations are excellent, the food unparalleled (all you can eat and all of it good), and the services are inspiring. The fishing is great with many trophy sized trout caught. There are many adventures available; shooting sports, 4X4 trail ride, and rock climbing to name just a few. I highly recommend any of the retreats for couples, family's, father son's, & mother daughter. All in the middle of God's creation.
The town at the end of the lake has general store, gift shop, gas station and a snack shop. It's a nice place to stop. There is also a day use area with a nice beach, Sandy Cove I think it's called.
SNACK SHACK burgers and milkshakes are legendary. I started at Black Oak Lodge in January and it was beautiful and comfortable.
The lake was very peaceful on out visit, almost no tourists around with it being off season now. During the summer the lake is great for swimming.
This lake was made by early 20th century loggers, who actually built the dam for their wood processing facility just behind it. Take the short drive to the south east end of the lake, then a short walk to the dam and the informative exhibit.
Perfect for the novice boater. Gorgeous views of the canyon andsurrounding mountains. Easy to launch your own boat from Sandy Cove area and avoid the crowds at the Christian Camp end.
My family owns a cabin here and I have spent a lot of time almost every year of my life up at Hume Lake and it never disappoints me, EVER! I have so many great memories here and look forward to sharing and making more memories with my wife and children as well. Best weekend is Labor Day Weekend, not only because it's my birthday weekend, but also because of the Hume Lake Country Fair that is going on during the Saturday of the weekend. Great time for family and God!
