Took a drive from Fresno to Sequoia National Park and Grant's Grove. Visited the General Grant Tree - easy to do, even in the cold from the nearby parking lot.
This tree is amazing. We hiked the trail the afternoon we arrived. The forest was quiet except for the sound of a few birds.
Trail is paved, easy to navigate. Rangers friendly and knowledgeable. Trees are amazing and unforgettable, as is the history
NIce short walking trail through big trees. I missed the sign saying you could not bring your dog on the trail. I ended up carrying my dog through the trail when I learned I could not bring her.
This is a short trail that is easily accessible from the main park highway - and it's worth the stop! There are other sequoias on this trail as well, though none as large, of course, as General Grant. We only spent an hour or so at this site before moving on to Sequoia National Park.
The tree, itself, is surrounded by fencing for its own protection. It is the largest giant Sequoia in the Kings Canyon section of the park. Along the switchback leading to the tree is a circular bricked patio that is the same diameter as the tree. This gives a striking idea of the tree's enormity.
This is a nice little loop. Easy hike for pretty much anyone. Grant is an amazing tree. There are also a couple of nice fallen logs to check out. There is also a bathroom in this area, which is always a bonus.
What an absolute majestic site! Amazing to see the size of all the Giant Sequoias. There is a great trail, and plenty of resting areas, for those that can't make it around, aka my 81 year old dad! Even with that, he got to see the tree, just not from all sides!
This tree we found to be more amazing than the General Sherman tree. It is more lovely, more magnificent! The size of these trees is indescribable. They are like running into a T-Rex. Awe inspiring but not scary!
We were stopped from walking the whole trail by snow but the end of trail either end is stunningThe walk around the General Sherman was full of thinks to see and each part was well documented with interesting facts and figures. The other end at the visitors center was full of interesting things to look at and the Staff/rangers were so nice and knowledgeable.Only thing missing was a cup of tea/coffee was surprised to find there was no cafe
Like the General Sherman tree, this thing is absolutely unbelievable! The walk to it is not that hard or long. you won't regret doing this!
Lovely and easy walking path to see lots of giant sequoias, including General Grant. These trees are absolutely stunning. This is a don't miss trail, and catch the ranger talk if you can. If I remember correctly, I believe that this trail is also wheelchair accessible.
The trail (smooth paved path) takes you through the wonderful Sequoia forest and awesome trees. The Park Service provides lots of historical signage and well paved paths that are completely ADA appropriate and easy for wheelchairs and the disabled to enjoy. The walk includes the General Grant tree, of course, but also other historical trees that early settlers lived in as well as a historical log-type cabin hand crafted from the local trees. The most enjoyable part is the abundance of benches to sit and enjoy the fantastic deep forest experience. You could do the walk in 20 minutes or less if you like or enjoy a leisurely few hours taking it all in. Parking is found 2 miles down a winding road from the Hwy 180 and there is room for 100 cars, and there are great restrooms there, too! The path starts at the parking lot and ends at the parking lot. Keep your eyes wide open, there are lots of deer, chipmunks, woodpeckers, and blue Stellar Jay birds to entertain you.
Since I was staying at Grant Grove Village, I was able to walk from my cabin to the General Grant Tree and Loop Trail and back, taking in some added sites and getting away from the road, that was a plus. The loop trail of Giant Sequoias around the Grant Grove area is very nice, good information displays. The walk is a bit up and down, but paved so very easy for anyone to do.There is a large parking area, and bathroom facilities.
