This is a challenging public course, the fairways are lined with trees so keep it straight. The fairways and greens are in really good shape this year. The course has bounced back nicely from the flood. A really good course for the price you have to pay.
We golfed this course on a cool, wet day and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The fairways and greens are in great shape since they have had quite a bit of moisture lately. The course was really quiet, we went the first Monday in June. We rented a cart since it was raining a bit on and off and we wanted the shelter. We did not mind the stay on the cart path rule, gave us a chance to do a bit of walking. It is a nice flat course so good for walking. The forward tees are "way" forward which was good for me. I was able to be competitive with my husband who is a much better golfer! I would recommend this course for anyone in the Bismarck area.
We golfed the Riverwood Course in early August, 2013 as part of a 5 day golf trip with 3 other couples. We were impressed with the recovery the course has made after the flooding. The tees, fairways and greens were all in very nice condition. We were aware of the 90 degree cart path rule before we teed off and we did not find the rule to be a major detraction from our round. Riverwood was in the same price range ($43 pp with cart) as the Tom O'Leary and Prairie West courses. All were in nice condition and we felt all were good value for the money.
Sorry we could not play on the course due to flood out this past year, but i grew up on this course as a kid,,,this is by far the best course layout going...Love it and will always be back.....to be honest back in the 70's got my teachings from a visitor here chi chi rod ....
The cart path only rule is bad (walk if you must play this course). It makes it even more difficult to find your ball because the grass is extremely long and thick, even on the fairways. Lost several balls because I could not follow the line of ball with the cart and had to guess where it was in the concealing grass. Even someone in the group in front of us admitted he had lost 3 balls in the fairway. However, this is still a nice course if you're looking for a scenic afternoon.
This review has nothing to do with the flood damage to the course. I get aggravated when I pay for a golf cart and then wind up walking more than if I had carried my clubs. The cartpaths only rule is not just after a rain, it is a permanent full-time rule. Also, never play this course after August, you can't see your ball in the fairway with the silver leaves that fall.
