This is a nice collection of old buildings placed to resemble an old west town. It was very well done. We enjoyed looking inside all the buildings at the antique items....
This frontier village is huge. I cannot believe how many buildings and structures have been saved for this village. The general store was cool. I felt like Laura Ingalls Wilder. There's no fee for the frontier village. Be sure to walk all the way to the end where there is a Buffalo museum and a huge sculpture of a buffalo. The buffalo museum has a great store. There is a herd of buffalo in the pasture behind the museum. Look for the albino buffalo.
The frontier village is understandably closed during winter months but still has some fun photo ops and historic structures that made me want to come back after the thaw. The World's Largest Buffalo is worth braving the icy wind for a one of a kind photo.
This is a free old western town that is pretty neat. Each building has been set up like it would have been in the old days. Each building has antiques and artifacts that are nice. Lots of photo ops, especially the worlds largest buffalo statue. They have old depot that is also a gift shop. Cute place to see.
I live near Jamestown and work in town. My mom and I walk here over our lunch in the summer time. My mom and grandma and aunt also used to work here when I was young! It is a great place to come and relax over your lunch or else visit from out of state! I have many cousins that grew up coming to ND every summer and the buffalo was a highlight! Great job keeping up the grounds and flowers! They are stunning!
I still remember visiting this site 40 years ago as a child. It was fun to get a picture of my daughter and grand daughter standing under the giant buffalo statue to put with the one of me as a kid.
We stopped by to see the giant buffalo statute--okay, that was worth seeing--and to try to spot some buffalo in the sanctuary. We did see three, including two white ones, way in the distance. I guess it is rare to get a closer view. The village itself was lifeless during our visit, but after reading some literature, it looks like things might be more lively on the weekends when they do some demonstrations. Bottom line, if you are in town for the night there is not much else to do, so why not stop by? It's free!
OK, it may not be that great but where else can you get a picture of the biggest buffalo in the world (hint - it's made of concrete). Some interesting stores. After you've been to the buffalo museum it's worth a couple of minutes.
Our family stopped here while driving through North Dakota in July. Looking things to do to break up the drive, this place served nicely. We spent a few hours enjoying the village and had a picnic lunch overlooking the buffalo herd. It was a nice easy (inexpensive) stop and the staff was friendly and helpful.
This is a MUST-SEE stop as you travel across the state of North Dakota. It has a little bit of everything to offer for everyone, young and old alike. There is a large pasture with live buffalo, an authentic frontier village to browse, and best of all, the world's largest buffalo. We thought we'd just stop to see that big boy, but ended up walking in and out of the numerous old-time store fronts and shops and enjoying the morning. This is not the dreaded commercialized village with tourist trap souvenir shops and expensive gimmicks to exploit tourists. It is the real thing and should not be missed!
It's worth a stop if you happen to be in the area. Half museum, half petting zoo, we spent about an hour here. Entrance to the village is free, you can play poker (or in our case Go Fish) in the saloon, have ice cream in the general store, pet the Shetland ponies, visit the old time dentist office or blacksmith shop. For five bucks you can ride a real stagecoach. We wouldn't have traveled to Jamestown just for this, but it was a welcome stop on the way.
Worth the stop if you are traveling through Jamestown. Some small shops and storefronts. Best part is the buffalo herd and White Cloud. We had a great view of them the day we went.
If you want to see the World's Largest Buffalo, go through Frontier Village & find it overlooking the fields where the herd of bison are kept by the Bison Museum. This Buffalo really is worth a stop! It is a huge and impressive piece of folk art that was built in 1959. If you like roadside curiosities, this one is a must.
This place was so cool, with all the old shops complete with furnishings. It was well done and we even got to ride in a stage coach.
I made a point to stop here to see the live buffalo. The town, the buffalo, and the place are neat to see. I made a very brief stop (10 minutes?), and took the requisite photo with the giant buffalo, but I can see how families could spend longer here and enjoy doing so.
