My children wanted to sleep in a cabin where everything is bare bones basic, just a bed in a cabin. I really appreciated the value in price and the fact that they had mattresses for beds so I agreed to do this stop, despite no bathroom in the cabin. We were on our journey through ND that would ultimately end up on the west coast so I knew we could survive one night old school. When we arrived, the rangers were nice and on duty on a Sunday at reasonable hours. This is a big plus. To the hubby's delight, they could supply us with wood for the charcoal grill. The cabin had a ramp which is great for wheelchair accessibility, as we needed. The cabin is situated a stone's throw away from a beautiful lake which is a big plus for us. We went inside to the cabin and found it clean, as well as well lit. It had a refrigerator. I strongly recommend buying groceries before you get in. As far as I knew, there is no on-site grocery store. All the stars you could see at night made me wish I was a real night owl. I saw a shooting star or as one of my children corrects me to declare how I should say a meteorite. No matter how you state it, an incredibly gorgeous night sky makes the trip to this cabin worthwhile.

I visited the park the first week of October, i.e. after the season. I was the only guest the morning I visited, but I was pretty early. I'm sure others visited it later in the day. I hiked the longest trail in the park at about 2.5 miles. Lots of tracks in the soft wet soil and some scat as well. Great for someone who enjoys tracking like I do. The ranger and an assistant were on duty, even on a Sunday in October, which probably explains why the part was so spotless. There are picnic spots, tent and RV camping spots, and simple cabins to rent. The namesake lake teems with wildlife, and I think you can fish in it (check).

Camping & BBQ areas well-kept, a quiet retreat. No spectacular features, but the nature walk is easy entry to get kids on the ground. Planning to return this fall for a weekend in a cabin.

We used to camp here quite often as it is a quiet out of the way place with a lake for fishing and a camping area.

Small camping spots, not a lot of areas to pull up your boat to the shoreline.

This small state park was a surprise for us. We live in the town where I grew up and this gem is only 60 miles away, yet I had never been there and wasn't really aware it existed until a few weeks ago.It is a pleasant place to camp, with about 30 campsites, most with electricity, and 2 camping cabins. It is well shaded, and the electric sites are all pull-throughs. There are two very clean comfort stations with showers, a playground, swimming beach, dock, fishing, hiking trails, a ranger program for the kids on Saturday afternoon and beautiful lake views. We really enjoyed our weekend here and plan to go back next summer.
