We play here regularly in the summer and practice weekly on the driving range, which has a view of the Olympic mountains on clear days. The views of Puget Sound and Mount Rainier are incredible, especially from the 17th hole. I'm not a good golfer, but it seems deceptively challenging to me. Yes, most of the fairways are open, but there's not a flat one among them. They're full of all kinds of undulations that send your ball not where you were expecting. And some of the bunkers are very deep with steep sides. And you'd better have good accuracy to keep your ball out of the water on the 14th hole. The distances between some holes makes it a nice walking workout. If you join the coaching club with Brent, which is a great deal, you get half off super twilight rates and discounted buckets of balls. There's also a great juniors club, which my daughter loves.
Worth the trip. Great round of golf. Very scenic from every hole. Wide open with lots of green fairways. Nicely groomed greens. looking forward to my next visit!
Other than the pace of play, as a single digit handicapper, I totally enjoyed myself here. They are working on some new facilities, but at the end of the day, the golf course is the most important thing to me. The greens were a little slow to my liking, but hey, I was on vacation and not in a tournament, so no big deal! Very nice place to test your golfing skills and a very casual atmosphere - yay to that!!!
Come play here ONLY if you want to play a beautiful Course ... that won't beat you up ... with several great vistas of both Mt. Rainier & Puget Sound ... with a VERY friendly staff ... with Bent Grass Greens in perfect shape that roll true ... & is very reasonable in price to play ... AND played host to the 2014 USGA Women's Amateur PUBLINX. The one current drawback is the Course only has a temporary Pro Shop so far, so only a very limited selection of items for purchase. The USGA likes the venue; I like the venue; & I think you will, too!
We played the home course today. The greens were slow, but smooth, with color not green but a lot of yellow. The fairways were sparce of grass and not consistent. There is a major tournament being played there soon and will folks be disappointed. We had planned to walk but were convinced to ride an electric cart. Mistake. Any healthy person can walk the course. Yes, there are distances between holes, but not that far. One of our group walked and we kept up to the group ahead of us. This course is a lot of hype and no product. Also, if you have a GPS on your car or use Microsoft Streets and maps, the address given will NOT be found as you need the old address to find the place, which is not easy.
Played the Home Course while I was in Tacoma for training. Enjoyed the course very much and the people at the club house were great. Will definitely play there again when I'm in Tacoma.
Enjoyed the links feel of the course very much. The greens were in great condition (we played after 2pm on a Saturday) and the views were very enjoyable. We are looking forward to a return trip! The dynamite sticks that mark the tee box are reminders that the track was built on the site of an ammunition plant.
I haven't played The Home Course for several years, and my game has improved since the last time. Consequently, the very open fairways and minimal obstacles gave me lots of chances at par and birdie. I play better on links style courses anyway, as they suit my strengths and minimize my tendency to magically hit whatever tree(s) are within range.Though my usual golf buddy and I normally prefer to walk the courses we play, The Home Course almost demands the use of a golf cart due to its long distances between holes. It's tough to maintain a good pace of play otherwise. Speaking of my buddy, he didn't much care for this layout because of the predominance of blind shots required...plus he was having an off day. I had just the opposite experience, chipping in twice for par saves, and even defeating a couple of the deep bunkers with my magical sand wedge! Greens were easy to read, though hard as concrete. Fairways were well-maintained. The course has a "local rule" allowing you to remove your ball from the rough on to the nearest grass, no closer to the hole, because of the millions of pebbles lurking under the fescue. And yardage markers were spot on, as I was able to verify with my new GPS watch. I always appreciate lots of drinking water stations, and The Home Course has ice water on almost every tee. There's only one restroom on the course, but there are sufficient "au natural" alternatives.Course staff are very friendly. The walk-up snack bar offers very decent food and a wide selection of "swing lubricant" as well as other beverages. Golf carts are older and creaky, but they run just fine. As other reviewers have mentioned, Pacific NW Golf Assoc. members pay a discounted rate, and active duty military also receive a very healthy discount. Hooah!
Liked the location. Disliked the course which was a semi links style, wide open and on some holes "gimicky".
Without question one of the better courses in the area for the price. Ensure you bring your handicap card to recieve a discount. The tees are deciving. Play one back i.e. if you play from the whites move to the blacks. This is a beautiful course. the greens are much better than the typical muni greens you will see. It needs a better club house, other than that, this is first class.
Being a citizen of DuPont, I love our Home Course! It is not the easiest course around but it offers challenging holes and a variety of open fairways and tree lined fairways. We often just visit the driving range too which offeres a nice putting green. This course will be even better once a real clubhouse gets build so the future is looking bright for this lovely course!
Sister course to Chambers Bay for the 2010 US Amateur. Beautiful views abound of Mt. Rainier, the Cascade Mtns. and the Olympic Mtns. Very well maintained course, very tough greens with lots of , undulations and tiers. Fairly wide fairways, but if you go past the second cut of rough, forget it. Fun place to play.
We play this course several time a year and enjoy it very much. February isn't the best time to play, so try to get it in the summer. They have several sets of tee's so you can play from the back ones at about 7000 yards if you are really good, it can be a tough course, bur fair.
We very much enjoyed playing this course. It was well kept. We had a little problem on the front 9 with a slow group a couple four-somes in front of us, but the marshall took care of that by the back nine.
