If you are in need of a bathroom, Storm King is where you want to stop - even on holidays. Take a few minutes to get out, stretch and go over to the edge of Crescent Lake and enjoy the views. If you have more time, go hike to Marymere Falls - the trailhead is here. PS: You can get very limited mobile phone service here as well.
We were surprised to find the ranger station closed on a Sunday during the summer. We love getting the stamps in our national park book, but didn't get this one :(. The hike to the falls was one of our favorite hikes and the lake is absolutely stunning. Stop by the little store on the lake and get a Port Angeles rootbeer!
Hiking around this area, to Marymere Falls, etc. was beautiful. The ferns are breathtaking. Make sure you go to the Crescent Lake Lodge even if you don't dine there--beautiful lake. We had lunch there and it was perfect, although the service was very slow.
The Rangers were cordial and helpful, and the location is wonderful for a short rest, or a walk to Marymere Falls. Or you can make the two minute walk to an awesome view of Lake Crescent!
Worthwhile stop and information. The staff was awesome.Everyone should take time to stop to get the information they provide.
Wonderful, kind rangers who provided a lot of good information regarding hikes, wildlife and swimming.
Amazingly steep, fun, invigorating hike! Give yourself about 2-3hours to complete, maybe more, cause once you master the steep climb to get to the top, you won’t want to hurry down! This is a difficult trail to some, it’s full of many steep switchbacks and once you make it to the Caution Sign it gets rougher with thin trails and minor rock climbing, but the reward of an amazing view at the summit is worth it! Therefore I would not waste the effort and only go on a clear day! I recommend taking a day pack or camel pack with plenty of water and snacks, possibly lunch. We own two Earthcaches on this trail, one at the Caution sign for those not able to go further, and one at the summit. Personnel at the Ranger Station are extremely nice and informative if you have further questions. There are also picnic tables and bathrooms located around the parking lot. I would not reccomend for young kids, but teens would enjoy. I do know the local schools take the HS kids up here for feildtrips! links to Earthcaches:http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=e413577f-c965-4566-8ee8-3777ad55213ehttp://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=4bd5ba29-d751-455f-9822-8f9983751d21
Very friendly and helpful ranger staff. This is the station you start from to go to Marymere falls. Staff assured us hike was ok for grandma (78). They were right.
