hi everyone .. sorry to hear in the past you did not have the best of experience at the rental shop. I am sure you will be happy to hear that none of the same employees are working there any more and the shop has been updated with nice new bicycles and new mopeds. Being the new owner I take pride in everything I do and will always strive to provide the best rental equipment for your use while visiting long beach ,,, my company name is ECMD Inc bda long beach mopeds .. I hope to have the web site up dated soon and lots more in near future ,,, were open 7 days a week 11 to 7 pm ,, till mid September then weekends. I have posted my cell # on the door should you need rentals when the store is closed, thank you much ,, New owner Robert A Merrill ( tony )
My family rented one of the four wheeled bikes that have the seat on the front that the children sit in during the ride. My grandson was severely injured due to the equipment being unsafe and the whole seat fell off the bike causing him to fall to the road causing a head and face injury. My nephew went down to the shop to let them know what had happened and told them they needed to come get the bike. They refused to even refund the rental price and as they were leaving the parking lot with the bike as my 3 yr old grandson was being loaded in a ambulance they were laughing.. I urge everyone NOT to rent anything from this place. I won't ever rent anything like this again.
Rates would be OKAY if the equipment worked. Unfortunately, the bikes that we were given were in such bad condition, just going down a 1/4 mile on a leveled street was back breaking. Bikes were old and the gears sucked so bad you had to put 5x the effort into peddling. By the time we reached the beach trail, we realized we were ripped off, decided to walk the bikes back and take it as a loss. Employees seemed jaded, and frankly, creepy. My husband and I have made long beach our weekend vacation spot, and we now know to stay way clear of Apollo Activities. I can only hope people read these reviews and heed the warning.
Avoid the Bike Rental at this place, only because the rates are super high ($11.00 per hour). We rented bikes for four hours thinking that they had a daily rate, and they did....$36 dollars. Two bikes for the day, with tax, ended up being $75 dollars. The surf shop (Skookum Surf) had bike rentals for $15 dollars for the whole day. Bad move on our part, but hopefully you can avoid making the same mistake with this review.
We just got back from a fantastic vacation in Long Beach and everyone in our party had a wonderful time. There is much to see and do. Four of us decided to rent mopeds to ride on the beach, so we checked out Apollo Activities. What should have been an enjoyable experience was anything but.We only rented for an hour and the rates were reasonable. However, my moped stalled after 10 minutes and I could not re-start it for nearly 40 minutes. I should have known this might be a problem because before I took it out the employee at Apollo had difficulty getting it started, as well. When I questioned it, the manager (Uriah) said it was because it was cold and hadn't been started that day (even though it was about 3:00 PM). When I asked Uriah for extra time or a credit, he got an attitude so I backed off and paid the hourly rental fee even though the entire group I was with only rode for a total of 15 or 20 minutes. The rest of the group did not want to leave me sitting on the beach stranded while I waited for Uriah to come and help. (By the way, my sister's moped had to be driven very slowly (10mph) because the front wheel was slightly bent and it wobbled like a crippled duck). When I returned the moped and let the person at the counter know what happened he seemed indifferent, as he has probably heard this story many times before. I told him I would be writing to their Chamber of Commerce about their business. That angered Uriah. When I got home I was going thru my on-line credit card account and noticed that Apollo Activities charged me an additional $150. I immediately contacted Uriah and he said it was for returning a wet moped, a trumped up accusation in retaliation for my threatening to report their business. I never went near the water, and nobody else in my group was charged this outrageous fee.Be cautious if you decide to rent their equipment. Your best bet is to get there early and pick equipment that isn't tattered---much of it is worn out and needs replacing. And don't forget to check your credit card statement for sneaky charges.
