Having visited several zoos, reptile houses, and a serpentarium or two, the Washington Serpentarium has the most complete and fun collection of snakes and reptiles I have ever seen. We (my son, grandson, and I) are snake people and the “kids” weekly visit a reptile store in our city. All of us (including my wife) were amazed at the variety and presentation of the snakes, etc. They have a majority of the top ten most deadly snakes in the world, HUGE anacondas (fed large whole rabbits), and some really beautiful snakes. Each is labeled and has enough information on each animal to satisfy all but the dedicated scientist. As a bonus there is a fine selection of reptiles and spiders. Just remember this is an indoor exhibit and there is some expected animal oder. The Washington Serpentarium is not just a “look – see” place. There is a fenced in yard where kids can play with several large tortoises. Every ten minutes or so about three snakes are brought out for holding and petting. One tends to wrap itself around one’s neck! For an extra $5 you and your group can hold a two to three foot alligator. What a thrill for our son and grandson! This is one of the best deals in Washington. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for children. The serpentarium also is a refuge for unwanted reptiles as space permits. The hosts are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The Washington Serpentarium is a must stop. If snakes rattle your nerves, the Red Hook brewery is just a few miles away.
I stopped here with my girlfriend for a few in hours back in April 2012. This is essentially a small zoo with exotic reptiles. They probably have a total of 30-40 different exhibits of reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, or other insects. They let you touch some of the turtle/tortoises. They also will let you hold certain snakes while they supervise. It makse for an okay activity for a half-day or few hours. It isn't a large place. So don't expect much walking. Okay for adults, but much more fun for kids. Check out the website for more information: http://www.reptileman.com/home.html. The admission at the time was reasonable (in my opinion), $6.00 per adult and $5 per child.
We had a wonderful visit at the serpentarium! They had a fantastic variety of reptiles. The enclosures and reptiles were well kept and clean. We were really impresessed by the collection of the worlds deadliest snakes! It's a great experience for children to view the reptiles and there is also opportunities to hold snakes for the children that are brave enough! Friendly, knowledgable employees and a great experience! A must see for reptile enthusiasts!
The place is dirty not kept clean for the animals, animals look like they live in dirty spaces that are cramped. My feeling is the place needs an inspection SOON!!!!!! Some animals looked sickly to us.??
Fun time for kids. There are 2 sections - one for reptiles, the other for amphibians and insects. A separate area for petting tortoises.
I took my 3yr old son to the reptile zoo and we both loved it. They have some amazing snakes and lizards. We both really enjoyed the albino reptiles, there is just something so beautiful about them.
This is an indoor zoo filled with many different kinds of reptiles: snakes, iguanas, turtles, alligators and crocodiles! Great information and up close viewing. Turtles can be touched and, if you ask and are there at the right time (not allowed just before feeding time!), you can even hold some snakes! It's a bit smelly inside, but be sure to bring your camera to take lots of pictures. This is one of our son's favorite places!
