Easy hiking trails in a picturesque setting, plenty of benches and picnic tables. A little gem of a park in Montesano.
I tent-camped here with my 5- and 8-year old and hubby for a weekend in July. Even though the sites are fairly close together, there is lots of vegetation to provide some privacy. The bathrooms were well-kept. The lake swimming was a little disappointing, there was a lot of muck, perhaps that can't be avoided in nature! We hiked up the hillside that had lots of cool little places for my 5-year-old to explore. The park had mentioned you could rent boats but that didn't seem available. The beach area was a little hike away - more muck and goose poop. We would have braved it, but it was a rainy cold day, so not worth it. Apparently, this lake is famous for its salamanders - we watched the neighbor kids find tons of them, very impressive (we made sure they let them all go unharmed!) The kids had fun on the playground for a bit. The camp staff were very nice and responsive. An OK place to stay, but not the best place on the Peninsula.
I can't believe that there is such a beautiful little lake right in my own backyard. It is a nice State Park here which offers nice sites right on the lake. You can pull your boat right up to your site. I do believe that there are no gas engines allowed on the lake. They also offer day use areas. The lake is a year around fishing lake with some very large fish. There are two bridges that you can fish from. They also offer hiking through the forest and also around the lake.. The lake is surrounded by large beautiful fir trees! There also is a roped off swim area for those that love to swim. It is nice to have such a beautiful place right in our little town!
This is a small day-use and camping park. There is fishing, hiking, boating (non-motorized), and swimming available as well as playground equipment for the kids. There are multiple picnic areas.I visited on a Saturday in June and there were a lot of people there. The day was sunny and warm but it was pleasant under the trees in the picnic area by the lake. I did a little hiking and enjoyed it. The trail I was on was well maintained. It was very nice and I will be back. Perhaps I will camp next time.A Discover Pass is needed for admission and can be bought on site,.
