We had a great time. However on Saturday night, some tent campers next to the restroom, were partying and quite loud, till the wee hours of the morning. I don't think they realized that since the weather was cool, people didn't have their air conditioners on in their rv's, and they didn't realize how their voices carried through out the park. I was pretty far away from their site yet but I could hear them as if they were having their party at my campsite! And instead of taking their beer bottles to the trash they dumped everything in the restroom, which I thought was very inconsiderate, there are trash receptacles as you leave the park. (we did a trash run every day when we replenished our ice for our coolers.) So that one evening they were an annoyance but finally they went to bed, and all was peaceful again!

The sunday buffet at hickory knob leaves a lot to be desired. The fried chicken is usually very dry, the vegetables are tasteless and the desserts suffer. The best thing is the salad. Oh, and by the way the soups are extremely salty.

This park has most anything you could ask for but the major attraction is that it is on a 73,000 acre, 1,200 mile shore line lake that is loaded with fish. Included are camp sites for both tents up to large RV's, motel and lodge facility's, Full service restaurant, swimming pool, tennis. 18 hole golf course and two large facilities for meetings.

The access is poor and the roads into the campsites are even worse. Don't waste your time. Go across the lake into Georgia to Elijah Clark. Cable television, Great Lake views and very good paved roads.

We did a weekend camping trip to the park and could not have selected a better location. We are tent campers and had a site right on the lake with plenty of shade. The sites are all separated from each other so there is more privacy then most campgrounds.Plenty to do at the park with lake swimming, boating, fishing, golfing, skeet shooting, hiking and biking. The facilites are very good and the staff is excellent - very friendly. The bathhouses are clean but could use an updating. The golf course is a beautiful layout along the lake. LikeTravelBillNC mentioned very hilly front 9 and pretty level back nine with a little more water. Fairways were great, but greens could be better groomed. They are in great condition but need cut a little lower. If you want to play on a weekend check before going. They do have quite a few tournaments on weekends. Green fees very reasonable especially if staying in the park. If taking your own boat or kayak, be sure to have all of your safety gear up to date. DNR patrols the lake and fines are steep. The couple with us did not have life jackets or whistles with them while kayaking and it cost them 110.00 each. So be properly outfitted if going on the water. Also if camping, take water shoes. The sites are great, but accommodate camping trailers too so they have gravel and the shores of the lake are all natural so there are lots of stones

Played here several years ago and again last week with a friend. Nice golf course and just OK condition. First 9 is quite hilly with substantial elevation changes. Back 9 is flatter. We played on a Thurs morning (9am) and the course was empty. Worth playing if you are in the area, especially if you are camping at the park

Hickory Knob State Resort Park is a great place tucked away near the SC/GA state line. Go alone or take the family, it offers many adventures from the lake, golf, archery/skeet range to hiking and biking trails. The wildlife is also prevalent and clearly at home in their protected area. The trails are great for biking offering many variations in terrain, along with plenty pine needles to keep you focused while you see the spectacular lake views. Boat ramps and piers give access to lake adventures and it's large enough to accomodate plenty. I will be back!

Hadn't been there in a while and stopped by after church for Sunday brunch. Food had been sitting out for a while and even though they had a variety everything was somewhere between "meh" and "yuk!" Would improve if they didn't put food out so early or rotated smaller, fresh portions. Sad thing is, this is one of the few places available on Sunday. Go to Hardee's instead. Really.

We visiting the park for one day. We went skeet shooting first and had been handed an old brochure of the park with old prices. Only after we started shooting did we find out that is was $20 per person per 25 rounds. What a ripoff! You can easily go to a private range and pay half that much! The rangers supervising the skeet shooting were very nice and helpful, but overall, very overpriced. Afterwards, we went on the Beaver Run Trail which was a good hike. The trail when right up to the lake a few times and our dog eagerly ran into the lake whenever he could! Though the skeet shooting definitely wasn't what we expected, the hiking was fun!
