Almost everthing is as the last owner left it. A real prairie castle owned by one of the founding fathers of Faulkton. Built as a claim shanty and then added on, and added and added. The library and a upstairs bedroom were added from the town of Lafoon . It was picked up and moved 7 miles with horses. The original owners, Major John Pickler and his wife Alice were friends with several important people including Susan B Anthony and Teddy Roosevelt, both who can to visit. All of Major Pickler's orginial law books and other books are still here. He did not throw out any thing and all of the oringinal land grants were in the attic when it was given to the Historical Socienty in 1989. Those papers are now at the SD State museum. Open in the summer 1-4pm. Rest of the year by appt.
We went to tour the Pickler Mansion. This tour is incredible. The local Historical Society has done a wonderful job of restoring this home to its original splendor. With original furniture and attention to detail, it's like stepping back in time. The guide was informative and knew details of the lives of the Pickler family that made the experience interesting as well as entertaining.
