It was a real highlight of our time at "the faces" was Tramway Adventures. We took the chairlift up to lunch - good food, and great atmosphere with the monument just off in the distance; lovely walking ground and photo opps atop the experience. Prett reasonable prices for food, drink and lift/slide tickets. The Alpine Slide coming down the hill was very very fun. Sad you couldn't race each other or go too fast, but it still gave me the idea of a thrill ride and as close to the Olympic bobsled run that I'll ever get. The girls did the zipline and it was a well run activity and they loved it. Just scary enough for our thrill-girl, and safe enough for our scaredy cat.
We enjoyed the ropes course and the zipline. The zipline was a fun experience - a short walk up into the woods and you are zooming across the zipline. The ropes course required a little more physical endurance, but it wasn't too difficult and we loved the obstacles. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return!
Nice ride, great views up on top, was surprised to see the view of Mt. Rushmore and the other views and the snack bar.
We came back to the alpine slide ant the arial adventure park 3 days in a row. My 3 kids (age 9, 6, 3) all enjoyed the slide. We went numerous times and my 9 and 6 year olds drove their own cars. They loved it! The view of Mt Rushmore from the top is really great. We also usually each lunch at the cafe at the top of the mountain when we go. This is a repeat stop for us for the past 10 years. I will say the staff is less than stellar but we've done it so many times before, we didn't need much instruction. I don't think English is the first language of most of the people working the lift and arial adventure part of the parks and they seemed short on patience. My 9 year old son and husband really liked the zip lines.
We were in the Black Hills area the weekend before Labor Day weekend. My son wanted to do the zip line and Alpine slide. We drove from Rapid City on Monday Aug. 25, only to find a hand written note stating they were closed until Labor Day weekend. Would of been nice to know ahead of time like maybe on their website. Some people are still on vacation even if South Dakota kids have gone back to school. We did a helicopter ride around Mount Rushmore instead and probably had a better time. While waiting for helicopter turn, talked to some other people who were there for zip line and were disappointed by being closed so they decided to do helicopter ride also.
We got to the top of the alpine slide and the kid that was in charge of helping us get onto the slide was more interested in his iPhone then us... Really?? Ask how I was suppose to get on it. And was told very rudely to sit on it! I think they need to make a rule that all staff needs to leave the electronic divides for breaks and off time! I am sure they could fine another individual that would appreciate that job a lot more then he did..
The ride is what you make of it. It can be a great few minutes if you pick up speed and feel the rush, or it could be pretty boring if you ride the brake all the way down. I had to go with my 6 yr old, so I let us gain some speed and we had a great time. My 9 yr old was kind of scared, so she went very slow all the way down. Unfortunately for my wife, she was following her, so she had to go slow, too. I don't think they had a very good time. Staff was pretty much useless. You would think they would give a little instruction on how the sled worked. Not really, they just said, this one is the fast-lane, this one the slow-lane. To make things worse, when the slide is done, you have to carry your own sled over to them to place on the chairlift back up. So dads, enjoy carrying your sled, your wife's sled, and your young kids' sleds. Really, what is the staff paid for? Don't really do anything for you at the top, don't do a damn thing for you at the bottom.
We had no idea of the little town right outside of visiting Mt. Rushmore - the town of Keystone is awesome and quaint. We only had time for the Alpine slide. Take a ride up the chair lift and enjoy the views. There is so much to do. There are two slides even a designated side for slower riders. But just know they both go as fast as the driver allows. WOO WEE what a ride and so much fun. Even if you have small kids you can have them ride with an adult. Great for any ages.
We only did the Alpine slide once (we spend all our time at the adventure park next door) but we wished we had more. You could easily do this slide several times and not get bored. Watch the weather as they don't give refunds and rain is an issue in this area.
Myself, husband and our two sons (13 & 5) decided to do the tram up the mountain and the alpine slide down. We had sooo much fun!! My husband and 13 year old son road by themselves but my 5 year old road with me which is required due to his age. He pretty much sat on my lap and laughed all the way down. My youngest son is very adventurous so I was trying to travel at a safe speed (I read the review from the guy he got injured) but my son kept pushing the gear to make us go faster. So I pleased to announce that we beat my husband down the mountain. So if we’re ever in Keystone, SD, I’ll definitely visit again.
We go to every alpine slide we find. This is our 3rd set. Although I think they should have better rules and restrictions on who can ride by themselves. There were several younger children that should have been riding with an adult. My kids love these slides, but I would not let them ride by themselves yet.
Great scenery at the top of the slide and a view of Mount Rushmore. It is worth the trip for the view even if you don't want to slide down.
We took our three kids down this slide and they really enjoyed it. My boys didn't break at all until the end and made it safely down. There is a slow lane for two riders or those that don't want to go too fast. I would recommend this.
We enjoyed it so much, we went 3 days in a row! Nice chair lift ride to the top, where there is a restaurant and nice scenic views. The ride down is fun - you can go as fast or slow as you want. I think this was my son's highlight of our vacation here.
My son and I took the Alpine Slide. First each person must sign a liability waiver which made me nervous. We took a tram up a mountain then slid down. The ride was great and could be controlled by the rider. I wish they had the tourist pictures at the bottom of the hill as it is difficult to bring down a picture without destroying it.
