Nice and quiet place in the off season. Nice lake surrounded by pine trees. Ice fishing in the winter. Good place to take a drive around anytime of the year. Picnic in the summer. Fishing year round.

Stockade Lake is small and very pretty. It is a lake that is primarily for day use such as picnicing and boating.

The western bank of the lake has tiny peninsulas just big enough for a picnic table. This is a very tranquil lake with great views and is one of the best places to picnic in CSP. There are primitive restrooms, trash bins and a handicap deck available also. If the weather is windy or too hot, try the south side; there are picnic tables up next to the lake in the shade of the trees. Enjoy your time there!

This is a nice large lake in Custer State Park. We liked seeing it on our visit to the Black Hills. There is picnic tables, as well as a campground.

The Stockade Lake Trail wasn't a bad trail but the views were only so-so. It was actually a more difficult than the Harney Peak Trail and though Harney Peak is a longer trail, it is by far superior to the Stockade Lake Trail. If you have extra time and are looking for another hike, Stockade Lake isn't bad, but the Sunday Gulch trail, though longer, might be a better option. Harney Peak is by far my favorite trail and it's actually pretty easy, it's just a bit long. Took me 3 hours to hike Harney Peak.

Nice lake with a trail along the side. Not the best lake in Custer State Park -- that honor goes to Sylvan Lake.

I used to love to go to this lake for fishing, swimming, and boating but anymore it is full of moss. It started early this spring and has not gotten any better. You will come out of the water all green and slimy. They are draining other lakes in the area and dredging them. Hopefully, Stockade is on their list.

This is the largest and prettiest lake in Custer State Park. Great for kayaking. A second close is Sylvan Lake but that can get overcrowded. Make sure to pay the South Dakota Recreation Area $15 fee ($30 annual sticker).

The lake was beautiful and we were excited that the beach was empty - until we realized why - the beach was COVERED in goose droppings - hardly a clean spot to step. We took some pics and went back to Legion Lake to swim.

We liked it because it was not nearly as crowded as Sylvan lake. We didn't catch any fish, just 4 crawdads. Kids had fun, there is a beach and playground. Nice picnic areas. We liked it.

We stayed here during the 4th of July week and truly enjoyed the campground. We stayed at the Stockade Lake South Campground. The lake is awesome! Fishing was not so good but the beauty of the campground and surrounding topography was well worth the trip. The campground had rock hearths for your evening fire. There are ample pine trees for shade during the day. In addition, the location of the campground made it very easy to access Custer, SD for the 4th of July festivities. We will plan to stay at this campground when we return in the future.

Visit the Stockade, take a drive around the lake and stop and find the right spot for that perfect picture or take a swim off the beach.

I've fished all over the hills. Can we please get some fish in stockade? I haven't even tried this year because if I have time to fish, I want to be able to catch something. My money is usually on Sheridan or Pactola. But Stockade used to be a pretty good fishing destination. Now, it's very ho-hum, and THAT is from all of the locals that I know.

Pretty Lake with good scenery and picnic grounds. We had a very successful fishing trip, catching many trout, some also large in size. I used a trout lure and caught many but bait will also do. Not a super crowded Lake... Hope it stays that way.

The lake is beautiful with a handful of picnic tables. There is also a playground right next to the lake which our boys, two and four loved. We also did the Stockton Lake Trail and I'd only give it three stars. Steep going up and coming down with really limited views along the way. Enjoy the lake but skip the hike.
