After researching all the possible options for stand up paddle boarding in the Durham area, Jordan Lake Water Sports (JLWS) is not only one of the only options, it is the best! For $50 per person, you can rent a board all day. Other companies either had a time limit of only a couple hours or they offer guided tours. With JLWS you are free to roam all day. We went on a weekday, when there weren't too many boaters out. Jordan Lake is huge so you can definitely get your full day's money's worth and check out all the different coves. Paddling in the lake is great because it's nice and calm, and the water is deep enough in case you fall off :)There's also a little beach area where you put in so you can relax on the sand if your arms get tired or if people in your party don't want to get in. They can also swim there. JLWS employees make the process real simple. Reserve your board online. Check in at the building, and then they bring the boards down to the lake for you. Leave them there when you're done and they will pick them up. They also offer kayaks and canoes. By far my favorite thing I've done while visiting Durham!
