Thoroughly enjoyed the exhibit of old quilts in this setting. Great presentation about the history of quilts and some of the history of Bloomington while we were there. We loved the re-constructed barn too.
I actually came to visit the quilts and was thrilled that the nice volunteer knew so much about them and also loved them their beauty. She took me around the house and told me some of its history. The tour is free so make sure to leave them a donation. The gardens should be lovely in summer, they grow heirloom plants and dry the herbs for the kitchen display; they also have the heirloom seeds for sale. You could easily spend over an hour happily wandering the house and gardens. Very beautiful and it was fun to learn a little of Bloomington's history.
We arrived there on a Saturday noon, when it was supposed to be open. Although we knocked on the door several times, there was no answer and the enterance was locked. Since it was our only opportunity to visit, we decided to give a call whether it was really open or not. Luckily, the person who answered was just in the Barn so she came out to let us in. Later we discovered that there was another person in the museum - with a historical outfit- who was the original guide. However we decided to tour with our welcomer and it was the correct choice. She answered all of our questions, she was very patient. What interested me the most were the old toys. The patchwork examples were also nice to see. They kindly invited us to see a concert later that afternoon but unfortunately we couldn't make it. This would be a nice museum to visit to get to know some history behing the Indiana University.
