This will be similar to my Bridgeton In. review. Avoid this during the festival, greed and commercialism have gone very wrong here. Come for the right reason, go a couple of weeks before the festival or after to avoid the crowds, parking fiasco, junk vendors and food wagons. Patronize the locals they'll appreciate it much more and thank and encourage you to enjoy their beautiful little town. Photo ops are much better when there aren't hundreds of people milling about (sorry about the pun) and ugly signs everywhere. Beautiful and peaceful views by the mill and bridge. Enjoy!
Although this is the famous, and most popular place to attend the Covered Bridge Festival, when not hosting that event, you will find a creek to play in. A great picnic area along the water, and for kids to play in the water. The view of the covered bridge and the mill are just bonuses. Have always enjoyed this Mansfield Roller Mill Site.
Mansfield Roller Mill is a mill in the downtown area of historic Mansfield, Indiana. There's no fee to get in & as we found out it's only open on the weekends. The nice employees who were grinding corn let us come in & look around. There's 3 stories, but we were only allowed on the ground floor. The basement area is where the turbines are to grind the cornmeal they sell on site. The gift shop was closed when we were there. There is a port a john for bathroom facilities. There's also the Mansfield covered bridge, which is only a short walk away. It's on the long side & cars can still drive on it (one at a time). Very scenic & you can get a great photo op of the mill & Big Raccoon Creek. We were assured by a helpful local that Mansfield was the place to go for the annual covered bridge festival in Park Co, Indiana. I think it's ONE of the places, but I'm sure she wanted us to go there first at festival time.
