The market use to be a fun place to get some local home grown veggies and enjoy a nice breakfast or lunch. The home grown veggies are still there, but management recently changed the café. The waitresses are very friendly and pleasant, but the food is terrible and overpriced. The menu is a fourth of what it use to be. Minimal daily specials. The cooks have no business being in the kitchen, as they appear to have zero cooking experience. It is sad because you use to be able to go to the market café and see all the same friendly faces and know you were getting good food.
Whether you are a local or visiting for a football game, this place should be on your list! The freshest local fruits and vegetables available at competitive prices. Local meats and cheeses available as well. I always pack a few pounds of bacon for the trip home! The Italian deli with subs and cheese are great for tailgating. Don't forget to stop at the Hungarian bake shop for some treats! The restaurant with counter service is a great way to start the day. The eggs are the freshest and the smoked pork chop can't be beat! I stop every time we're in town.
The selection was very good. This market is European style, in that there are fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, baked goods as well as crafts and resale goods. We went on a Friday, and the market was just getting up to speed for the season, so there were a few vendors absent.A nice stop in South Bend, we will try to go back on one of their regular days.
I enjoy going here for my veggies and cheeses. They are very competitive on price and it's much nicer knowing it's from Indiana or Michigan. The Cheese booth on the North side has Haberno Chedder and it's one of the hottest cheeses I can find so far! So delicious! I hear the meat is good as well but cannot comment on that one myself. It is true if you go on the weekend and go after about 10am then it does get very very busy especially around ND games so please be aware of that. Definitely a place to go!
Not only is this a great little market to roam but it also provides everything from rare meats (including rabbit!) to rare old books. I will definitely be returning many times. Whether it's for a fun date or groceries this is an awesome spot!
A very eclectic place to visit. You can get breakfast or a cup of coffee and roam for 1/2 hour. It is worth a visit.
Went there to purchase tomatoes for canning as our tomato crop was not as good as we needed. Found the best canning tomatoes in the area. But then there was much more. Went away with more fresh vegetables than what we went for. But also found fresh local meats. A great place to browse. The best time to visit though is around 10:00 AM as thing seem to go fast and picked over. The restaurant is must for breakfast also. Great selection at a great price.
the Southwestern farmers fresh produce is great. The tasty treats to plants are wonderful. the market is a place we attend every Saturday for breakfast and and a supply of meat and vegetables for the week. Its fun shopping
I love this market and I love that it's open all year round! It can be quite busy so I really recommend coming early if you can but come on a Saturday! They have a wonderful restaurant inside as well that serves wonderful food but you may want to try a little bit at some of the vendors instead. They also have different events that go on so you may want to check out their website for hours and events. I have never had a bad meal that's made from their fresh food! It is my preferred place to go for fresh veggies, fruit, and even their dairy (Oh Mamma's Italian Deli has helped us make the most amazingly fresh and delicious pizzas at home!!). If you're in town on a day this is open, visit!
Love the market and all of the booths of food, produce, jewelry and much more, which can be found here, even in the winter. Try the restaraunt for breakfast which is always good and fast. Great place to meet friend for breakfast...Try it you will like it.
Stopped in and took a look around. Neat place to check out if you're in town and it's open. You can buy some interesting things. Some of my friends shop here every week, this is a real farmer's market.
I have been going to the Farmers Market for over 40 years. Although it can be very busy on Saturdays, it is the day that most venders will be there. Beautiful cut flowers & plants, wonderful & fresh produce and they even have a little diner with great breakfast!! Just an old fashion good time.
This must be the real thing. There are farmers and food and some other assorted goods, and it has a real market feel. If you are used to big-city or even college town type of happenings at the FM, don't. This isn't it. You can walk around pretty quickly and find a couple of things that are reasonably priced and good quality. It will complement your regular grocery shopping, not replace it. It's a nice place, but nothing unusual.
Love this market. It's like walking back in time when people got their hands dirty to bring the fruits of their labor for sale...The smell inside is great...love fresh fruit and veggies...nice people. Great atmosphere.
Took my daughter to get some flowers for my mom for Mother's Day. The place was really hoping. it was almost too busy. We got a hanging basket, a few jems for my daughter for a necklace, some asparagus, which was in season and awesome and some cookies that were pretty bland. We also picked up a cinnamon pretzel and lemonade, both freshly made. Very good.We had a really good time. I've been to nicer places, like the Farmer's market in Elkhart (no longer in business), but what I've found is, the nicer the building, the more expensive the rent and the more expensive the products. This place seems pretty reasonable across the board.
