This is my favorite place to visit. We come to several games and events here. My son goes to school at holycross so we spend a lot of time traveling to South Bend and Notre Dame
As a Michigan State fan, it almost kills me to write this review... but I have to admit, Notre Dame has a great campus. The visitor center is very large and has every type of Notre Dame piece of clothing or souvenir an Irish fan would ever want. The clothing store/souvenir shop is truly spectacular. As far as the campus, we found the grounds to be beautiful and the buildings were very historic looking. I really like how the campus was arranged. In particular, I loved the basilica. The basilica literally took my breath away and almost brought me to tears - it was a very moving, spiritual experience. The gold dome was cool, we loved the Touchdown Jesus mural, and "1st down Moses" was a bigger statue than I anticipated. The football stadium was under construction while we visited - I think that the expansion will be incredible once it's finished. Last but not least, we ate lunch at Legends and that was really good. The food was good and the memorabilia on the walls was very interesting. I think that Legends would be THE place to be on football game day.
Having visited over 60 Division I University's, Notre Dame is the Hallmark of excellence. The grounds are Immaculate, as they should be with "our Lady of the Lakes" overseeing the campus from atop the Golden Dome. Even though there is a $441Million Dollar construction projects under way, the campus is still an over overwhelmingly attractive site. From the Hamm's Book Store, The Stadium, Touchdown Jesus at the Library, the Basilica, Joyce Center, Purcell Pavilion, and the "GUGE" are just a few of the magnificent place to visit. When you are done, eat at "LEGENDS" and spend the night at THE MORRIS INN. When you are ready to leave, you too will be shouting GO IRISH!
one of the best bookstores...campus is user friendly and easy to get around; lot of history and tour of the Basilica is a must.
Great and historic campus with fabulous dining and shopping facilities. A grand bit of history stuck in rural Indiana.
Great history and tradition! The bookstore is huge and has everything a fan would want. Great place to take a walk around campus. People are very friendly. Make sure you check out the grotto and the world war 1 helmet light hanging in the breezeway of the cathedral next to the golden dome.
Take a little time to walk through campus and enjoy the beauty of this University. The cleanliness, the architecture, the landscape, the layout, etc. is like no other ive seen. If you dont have time to walk it, at least drive around the campus. There is great photo opportunities of legendary people around the stadium and of the golden dome and touchdown jesus just to name a few.
We visited the University over a get-away weekend in January. Cold, cold, cold! Everything about this university spoke of history, education, and faith. I should also mention sports! The campus architecture was consistently unique and even the stonework was consistently beautiful and spoke of care and love. We attended Saturday evening Mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. We were blessed to have the Notre Dame's women choir singing for the service. If you are ever in the area I highly recommend stopping by the campus, church and grotto. The entire university is inspiring!
Everything including people were great. Enjoyed the history of it all, as well as the local eateries!
let me tell you travelers this place is awesome in the winter time it is so beautiful but a little word of warning bring some pepper spray even though it seems that it would be a very safe University sometimes you have one bad apple spoil everything and also check out across from Notre Dame its called Eddy Street Commons and go to Biggby coffee also while you are over there there's a small little ice cream shop that serves really good ice cream
The Grotto is a special place to see and experience, light a candle and say a prayer for Family and the 2015 Fighting Irish season.
Amazing clean, beautiful campus. Such history, traditions and great leaning. Touring campus inspired all of us.
We walked around campus and it is well maintained and clean. It's really neat to see all of the old buildings. There is a lake on campus which was also nice.
Great campus, excellent academics. I fenced for Indiana University, and Notre Dame always hosted a tournament every year. Inevitably the weather would be terrible, but the campus always looked great regardless.
The school clearly has some beautiful buildings, and the area around the church is the best for a pedestrian experience. The campus suffers from a much too strong emphasis on the car, but it seems they are trying to make it more pedestrian-friendly. That will take a loooong time, as the campus is so sprawling. Ironically, despite the focus on the auto, I find it hard to find my way around in a car, as there aren't a lot of landmarks or good directional signage. It doesn't seem to embrace the surrounding city but, instead, to separate itself from it's surroundings. Lots of potential but a long way to go.
